Leo and I got to the drive-in early, so we had time to talk for a bit. He went ahead and got our popcorn and sodas too, so that we wouldn't have to fight with a crowd.
"So, what have you been doing this week," I wondered, not sure how else to start the conversation.
"I went to the public pool with Tobey yesterday. It was so hot out that we actually had to leave early. It just got too crowded, because everyone had the same idea of going there," he softly chuckled.
"I have a pool at my house, but it's pretty small. I mean, you're welcome to use it if you want." I shyly looked over at him as he gave me a soft smile.
"I might take you up on that offer. A lot of times I just go to the pool to cool off, so it doesn't matter if it's that deep or anything." He ran his hand through his hair casually, causing me to lose my breath.
We just sat in silence for a little bit, munching on some popcorn and sipping our drinks. I crossed my arms as I gazed at the red sports car next to ours.
"So, do they have an intermission between the movies or anything? I've never really been to a drive-in before," I slightly laughed from being nervous.
"Yeah, they have like a ten minute break in between the movies. I think the Shrek movie is shorter than the last one."
"Yeah, I thought it might be, since it's a family film and everything," I added, crossing my arms as he nodded slightly. "Who's your favorite character from the films?"
He seemed to be thinking for a minute as he licked his lips in a pattern, his eyes squinted into the distance. "I guess Puss in Boots. He's a pretty cool character."
"Oh yeah, he is. I think I like Donkey, because of how funny he is," I giggled, Leo nodding before looking at something beside us. "What is it?" I strained my neck to see where his line of sight was.
"I just thought I recognized someone, but I can't tell, since they keep turning their head. Hang on." He opened up the door before slamming it shut, going over to the guy next to us. Soon Leo was smiling widely as they did a bro hug and laughed together. "Hey, McKenna, this is one of my friends from school, Brad," he introduced once he got the door open again.
"Hi," I waved to the guy with short, blonde hair.
"Hey," he simply nodded, crossing his arms to appear cool. "So, how long have you been seeing Leo?"
"This is our first time out," Leo hissed under his breath, laughing extra quietly as his cheeks turned bright red.
"Oh, my bad. So, how's it going so far?"
"Great, now stop trying to embarrass me. You do this anytime I take a girl out."
"Hey, it's not my fault you blush so easy, DiCaprio. I always tell you about my dates."
"Yeah, I know." Leo playfully rolled his eyes as I continued sitting in the car, not sure if I should step out or not.
"It looks like the movie's going to start soon now." Brad nodded towards the big screen that was beginning to show advertisements.
"Yeah, who are you here with," Leo questioned.
"I just came by myself tonight. I was going to see Shrek 2 and then head home."
"Alright, well it was nice seeing you."
"You too," Brad waved before they both got in their vehicles.
"Sorry about that," Leo lowly chuckled.
"It was okay," I replied.
"I just started hanging out with Brad at the end of the school year, so we haven't been friends that long. I hadn't seen him since the last day of school."
