School was a disaster this morning, not that it changed compared to other days, but in those corridors there was an air of anguish and boredom.
It was almost the end of November and the only thing that revived the students' souls was knowing that the Christmas holidays would soon start.
No one would see those boring books on the desks again and not even that professor who hostilely assigned a row of pages that weren't even in the program.
Danielle huffed with a frustrated look as she looked at her phone, hidden in her pencil case, waiting for chemistry class to end.
History was next class and she honestly tolerated Professor Bae better than the others.
Professor Bae was an ordinary colleague of the teachers' college, she had represented the school together with the principal for two years in a row but this year she had chosen not to get involved.
She had to leave school for several months so she could spend her pregnancy at home.
After giving birth to her daughter, Yeri, she returned to school a few weeks later. She already had a daughter who was already in middle school, Joy, and she knew how she should take care of the children.
Her wife, Kang Seulgi, had specifically advised the woman to stay at home also due to the release of hormones that were caused after her pregnancy, but the woman insisted and she went to work at school. Professor Bae was sweet and affectionate, perhaps she was the only person who really understood the students, and especially Danielle.
Normally Danielle always listened to her lessons and Professor Bae always gave her a smile at the end of the lesson, as she would have done today.
But something made her mind divert elsewhere, as well as the figure of Professor Bae who had other things to do today and she hadn't come to school due to personal problems.
The students murmured that it could be due to the monthly heat or her mother's probably whiny and willing daughter.
So Danielle left class after chemistry class and hit the school gym with her friends so she could make the minutes go by faster at the end of the school day.
On the other side of the asphalt there was Hanni, wearing her gymnastics school uniform and relaxing on the gym benches without being accused of incorrect behaviour.
It was time for Hanni and her class to get some exercise, but Hanni and her friends weren't doing much of anything except looking at their nails and making fun of the people who were running.
A shiver ran down Daniele's spine at the thought that one of those girls that was running could be her.
"So did you go out yesterday or not?" a friend of hers asked, tapping her on the shoulder, trying to get her attention.
“No, I changed my mind at the last minute,” Danielle replied casually.
One of her friends smiled mischievously and then pointed her fingers at her chest almost as if she wanted to hit her in the heart "Smart girl, you had fun with some Alpha, didn't you?" she asked immediately after getting a small laugh from the group.
Soon after she approached a boy, tall and robust with a fearless smile and a confident gait.
"Did you see Felix?" the boy asked. He put his hands in his pockets and then sat down between the girls. Danielle's friends smiled back at him and gave him light slaps behind his back almost as if they were teasing him for sitting with them.
"Take another trip and find out for yourself, Bangchan," one of her replied with a flirtatious smile on her lips, "But I've come to find out. Danielle, where is your cousin?" he asked insistently.
Felix and Danielle were first cousins, they had only recently bonded but they knew each other through the information they gave each other but their parents.
The only time they met was for family dinners, but now that they went to the same school it was easier to talk to each other.
Felix was an androgynous Omega, who from a distance couldn't tell if he was an Alpha or an Omega due to his intimidating gaze and that deep voice, but underneath he was a sweet boy.
"He have to hand me those damned English summaries!" he said angrily.
Bangchan on the other hand was Felix's best friend, they had known each other for a long time but Bangchan had always had a soft spot for Felix in an even more intimate way.
He was a perfect Alpha for Felix, but the Omega was in love with the popular Alpha Hyunjin.
Danielle didn't know him well because Felix had never told her about him, but she knew him through life or through the comments of her friends being that one of her friends was Lia: Lia was also an Omega who had already been engaged to Yeji for three years , an Alpha and Hyunjin's sister.
Felix had tried in every way to go out with this boy, but in Lia's words, Hyunjin was not yet ready to throw himself into a relationship but rather wanted to have fun without any consequences.
“Danielle seems more distracted than ever today,” Bangchan commented with a smirk.
Normally Danielle was always bubbly and ready to talk without ever forgetting anything, but today she felt confused and almost lost.
She missed Haerin, she hadn't seen her since today, even Professor Bae had noticed that Danielle wasn't listening carefully to her lessons.
"I'm telling you it's because of an Alpha!" another friend announced behind Bangchan's back, standing up and tapping her foot on the gym bench.
Danielle stared at her, mumbling nonsense and laughing at her friend.
Hanni was looking at her on the other side: she had immediately understood what worried Danielle about even from a mile away, Hanni had felt the lack of her that Danielle felt about not seeing Haerin again after that evening.
Why did Hanni know what had happened?
That genius Hanni had forced Haerin to tell her everything, or she would have talked to Mrs. Park about her running away from her house, leaving Sullyoon in her hands even though it was her problem.
She marveled when she learned what unscrupulous Danielle had done and how stupid Haerin had been to roll in the grass.
She had to be honest with herself and her friend Haerin: that Alpha was terrible at confessing her feelings.
