Morning light filtered through the windows as you moved through the hall, your anxiety growing with each step. Ji-su had been on your mind since you woke up, and the gnawing worry in your chest refused to subside. You couldn't remember the exact moment Ji-su fell unconscious, only that it happened in the morning. Desperately searching for her, you asked everyone you encountered, but no one seemed to know where Ji-su was.
Finally, you approached the last place you could think of—the bathroom. As you neared it, a small shriek reached your ears. Heart pounding, you pushed the door open, finding Eun-yu standing there, her expression frozen in shock. On the floor lay Ji-su, unconscious.
Without a moment's hesitation, you rushed to Ji-su's side. "Eun-yu, help me!" you called out, your voice urgent.
Eun-yu, still in a daze, blinked and finally moved to assist. She knelt down, helping you lift Ji-su. The tension was thick in the air; you could feel it in the way Eun-yu's hands trembled. But you didn't have time to dwell on it—they needed to get Ji-su to safety.
Together, you carefully laid Ji-su on a nearby sofa. You immediately called for Eun-hyeok, who quickly arrived and checked on Ji-su.
"She has appendicitis," Eun-hyeok explained, his voice still cold. "We need to perform surgery, but we don't have the necessary equipment, and none of us here is an experienced doctor."
A tense silence fell over the group as the gravity of the situation settled in. You waited, expecting Eun-yu to take charge and confront her brother, but when that didn't happen, you grew confused. After a moment of hesitation, you decided to approach Eun-hyeok yourself.
Finding him sitting alone, you approached and sat down beside him. You looked at him with a mixture of determination and pleading in your eyes. "Eun-hyeok, we're counting on you. No one else here knows anything about the human body, but you've studied it. You're our only hope."
As you spoke, you reached out and held his hand, unaware of the way his heart raced at the contact. Eun-hyeok felt a surge of emotion, but he kept it hidden, focusing on your words.
"At least we can try," you urged, your grip on his hand tightening slightly.
Eun-hyeok took a deep breath and nodded. "Alright. I'll try."
With that decision made, the group sprang into action. They worked together to create a clean space for the surgery, everyone pitching in to help. Eun-hyeok opened his medical book and quickly sketched a chart, showing where the appendix was located and how to remove it. Others boiled water and cleaned the area, making sure everything was as sterile as possible.
As Eun-hyeok prepared, he mentioned needing surgical equipment, and a few of the survivors volunteered to go out and search for them. But before they could leave, you hesitated, then spoke up.
"Wait," you said, reaching into your bag. You hesitated for a moment, then pulled out a small medical kit. "Are these the tools you need?"
Eun-hyeok looked at the kit, surprised. "Where did you get these?" he asked, his brows furrowing in curiosity.
You quickly concocted a story. "A friend of mine is a doctor," you said, your voice steady. "She sent a parcel to my address by mistake, and I just kept it, not knowing what it was for."
Eun-hyeok and the others seemed to accept your explanation without question, perhaps because it was you who said it.
Now you had so much work to do and had to make sure no one suspected you. It was just your luck that no one questioned your right instincts.
