Your heart pounded in your chest, and though your nosebleed had long since stopped, you couldn't focus on anything but Young-ho. Unknowingly, your eyes had turned dark, almost pitch black, yet retained an innocent look as they stared at him.

You had been infected for a long time, but no monster had ever spoken to you as they did with others who were infected. Now, you saw Young-ho's grip tighten around his gun, and you braced yourself for what was coming. He strolled toward you with an emotionless face, unreadable, which only heightened your unease.

Your eyes squeezed shut as he neared, and a tear slid from the corner of your eye. But then, you felt him wiping it away, and you opened your eyes in confusion. Why was he doing this? Shouldn't you be dead by now?

When you looked up, his face was as blank as before, showing no expression. It was impossible to tell what he was thinking or feeling.

"Your clothes are all bloody," he suddenly said, making you flinch. You glanced down. Yes, they were soaked. How could you face the others like this—if you were even alive by then?

At the Camp

Everyone was looking for you. Eun-yu and Ji-su moved through the crowd, asking if anyone had seen you, while Yi-kyung, Sang-wook, and Jae-heon searched outside. Then, Yu-ri spotted you.

"W-what happened?" Her eyes raked over you, taking in your teary face half-covered by your wolf-cut hair, and then landed on what you were wearing. A large shirt draped over you, reaching your knees.

She rushed to pull you into a hug but stopped when she saw Young-ho still holding your hand. Her gaze hardened as it fell on him, shirtless and staring at you. Jealousy flared in her eyes, and she glared at him, noticing you were wearing his shirt. She grabbed your hand from his grasp, pulled you close, and pecked your lips.

"Where were you? I was worried." Her gaze didn't leave Young-ho as a smirk crept onto her lips, seeing the way he glared back. She already had enough people trying to take you from her, and she wasn't going to let anyone else get closer.

The others spotted you and rushed over, bombarding you with questions. They pulled you away, insisting you rest, ignoring your shocked expression. You'd been in a daze since Yu-ri had kissed you—no, since Young-ho had taken off his shirt and replaced your bloodstained clothes with it.

Young-ho watched for a moment before he turned and walked away. You were infected, and he hated the infected. So why hadn't he killed you? Why hadn't the thought even crossed his mind? When you started bleeding, all he saw was your pain and fear.

One Week Later

A week had passed without any sign of Hyun-su. Young-ho hadn't told anyone you were infected, and you had only shown symptoms one other time. The others shielded you whenever possible. Now, you were all on the move, heading to a new hideout. The officers were gradually transporting survivors to safer locations, wary of the demons lurking in the area.

Yi-kyung's belly had grown noticeably larger. It had only been five or six months since she conceived, yet her belly was big, and she was randomly experiencing cramps. You and Yu-ri were beside her, offering help.

Sitting next to Yi-kyung in the vehicle, you were snapped from your thoughts by a soft whimper. You looked over and saw her clutching her belly with discomfort.
