You put the ingredients into a utensil and mixed them, the aroma of the spices spreading through the room. Today, you decided to make something savory for everyone—they must have grown tired of eating bland food every day.
It's a good thing you had stored spices and grains, and now that the store-bought food has already run out, you decided to treat everyone. After all the stress and trauma everyone has gone through, they deserve it.
Yeong-su came up to you and tugged at your dress. You looked down at him and bent to his height.
"What's wrong, Yeong-su?" you asked, noticing his big round eyes staring up at you, clutching his soft toy tightly.
"What are you making?" he asked with a sniff, and you couldn't help but smile at his adorable gesture.
"Something very delicious. Go and call everyone for lunch," you told him, ruffling his hair. While you're not a master chef, you knew this meal would taste much better than what everyone had been used to, making it a welcome change.
He ran off calling his sister's name. You stood up, closed the lid on the pot, and sat in a nearby chair. Jae-heon, who had been with you in the room for quite some time, also sat beside you. He had helped you with washing rice and a few other tasks. He watched you now with quiet admiration, loving how caring and nurturing you appeared—wife material, as he thought to himself.
Soon, the survivors filed in, holding their plates. Jae-heon stood up alongside you, and you both started serving the food. Everyone lined up, taking their portions one by one.
You avoided looking at a particular person you were serving, knowing exactly who it was. You had ignored Ji-su all morning. Even though she hadn't been as directly involved that night, she was still part of it. You couldn't admire her or consider Eun-yu a friend in the same way anymore.
You could feel Ji-su's gaze on you, but you quickly served her food without making eye contact. She walked away, and little Yeong-su stood next, being the last in line.
"Can I have more?" he asked, holding out his plate. You smiled at his eagerness.
"Did you like it?" you asked, and he nodded enthusiastically, his hair bouncing with the motion. Smiling, you gave him all that was left in the pot. He skipped away to sit with Su-yeong and Min-ju.
Jae-heon held out his plate toward you, but you shook your head. "It's okay, I'm not hungry."
He didn't argue. Instead, he took your hand, pulled you to a quiet corner, and placed the plate between you both. You smiled and started eating together.
You could hear delighted moans from the group, followed by someone shouting, "DELICIOUS!" A few others nodded in agreement, while some hummed contentedly.
You were happy seeing everyone enjoy the food and were just about to take a bite when a low, seductive voice whispered into your ear.
"Hmm, really delicious... but I'd rather taste your lips."
You turned around in disbelief to see Eun-yu smirking at you seductively. You could never quite understand what was wrong with her.
Jae-heon's expression darkened with envy. He had always stayed at a distance, only a friend to you, while everyone else seemed to steal moments with you. He was no longer content to remain a saint, not when he had to fight dirty to stay close to you.
The door to your quarantine room opened, and you looked up, expecting to see Eun-yu or Ji-su. Your tense body relaxed when you saw it was Jae-heon. He smiled softly, and you scooted over to give him space to sit beside you. He placed his katana aside and sat down.
