"Red." I spoke quickly. "Blue." She says. "Circles by Pierce the Veil." I gasped. "That's my favourite song too. That's insane. Okay uh- pizza."
"Pasta." I hummed quietly. "Smart girl. Okay- hobby you want to pick up but haven't?" I raised my eyebrows. "Photography. It all looks so fun."
"Oh that's a good one. I think maybe I would try painting." She nods slowly. "Nice. Okay, fun fact? About you."
"I- can jump, very high." She laughed and my heart skipped about six beats. "I've seen first hand yes. I'm not sure what mine- oh, I used to figure skate, almost became a national champion."
"You are an absolute wonder." The front door opens slow. "Oh, Calum they're just sat on the couch." Atlas drops her head onto my chest. "Luke are you ready to go?" I wrapped my arms around her tight. "No."
"We have lots to do. Come on." I kissed her gently as we had behind the couch with them in the kitchen. "I'll leave my card in your jacket just incase. Have fun okay. Have so much fun my sweet girl. I will see you later."
"Okay. Have fun with your fires and things." I stand up from the couch as she does the same. "I will try. I'll miss you." Hailey heaves. "It is sickening. I hate both of you."
"Bye baby." I said quietly. "Bye." She had the sweetest smile it made me giddy. Even just thinking about it made me giddy. "My god, you've gone soft."
"I have the sweetest girl in the world right at my feet, I think I would give my life in order to keep this as good as it is. I've been reading on it because Google was useless and so I'm hoping that she doesn't end up thinking in really- clingy?"
"Never in my life had I ever expected you to speak to me about this. Two months ago you were sad and drunk sleeping with whoever. If I'd k won the girl in your literal dreams, was one bar away, I would've dragged her into your arms myself."
"I think how we met was probably my favourite part of it all. She looked the same only she had glitter under her eyes. Her eyes were my first impression. They look exactly as I drew them."
"I still think it's insane that she's real." I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn. "I know. How are you and Hailey doing?"
"I don't know she's- it's difficult. I mean she's still staying in my bed and I've tried to understand why she just- stopped, but I can't. I spoke to her. I begged her at one point but she just seems set on it staying a friend kind of thing. But she just, acts different."
"I can talk to her. I won't pry her or anything, just sort of find an understanding. If you're okay with it, obviously." He picks at his nails. "I don't know. I want her to like me and I want her to be happy. Those two things just don't seem to go hand in hand."
"No don't say that. It might be something that she's scared of. People are always afraid, always. If she's done it suddenly then maybe there's something she's worried about."
"Maybe. If she wants to stay friends just because she wants to then I can find a way to deal with it. It just hurts."
"No I get it. I'll do my best to figure it out okay." He nodded slowly, dropping his head back. "Okay."
"Okay. Right come on." We made our way in, Fatima sat in her usual place looking as bored as ever. "Okay, leave me alone now please. I have things to do."
The man tried to stay, practically begged her really. "Ew." I whispered under my breath. "Whatever." He stormed off like a child, I covered Calums ears as he slammed the door.
"Okay. Daniel Fray." We both freeze , watching her eyebrows raise. "Yeah. They're making me pick this back up. He was recently seen in California. They think that he might be the one that took her."
"What would somebody that irrelevant want with this much trouble?" Fatima stares at me like I'd actually done something wrong. "I was just asking. I mean it's not like anybody k re who he was. He could've just carried on with his life but instead he decided to ruin it."
"Another insane accusation from Luke." Calum laughs. "It's not insane. He was irrelevant and he will be irrelevant after, because he is a boring man with a boring life."
"What makes you think he did it for status?" Fatima asked. "He's a man?"
"True. Okay I need you to drive down to California tomorrow to see if you can find him- yes you can take the girls. I'll send you your money, I need you to leave at 2am, take breaks that's fine. That's why you leave at that time."
"We can take the girls to that gouts town while it's dark. It'll be well funny." Calum says with an evil little smile. "Are you aware of how superstitious Hailey is? She wouldn't get out of the car."
"Well I wanna go. She can stay- in the car." My phone rang, my heart dropped before I'd even answered it. "What's up?"
"That James guy you were looking for a couple months ago- I think you said James. But he's here. Kylie is blind and can't see him but I can see the mark on his neck."
"Baby you are my hero." I pushed against my chest. "I try to be. He's in the Walmart."
"He hasn't seen you? Did his shoulders drop at any point? His head move weird? Make a sudden noise and see if he jumps, move away a little and see where his feet go. Move fast somewhere weird and see if he jumps."
"I did all of those things." She scoffed. "I was just checking. Shut up. Okay we'll be there in a minute just go to a different place and stay away from him."
"Fine. Also I have, so much to tell you when we get home. Like so much." She's such a gossip I love it. "I'll try find something to tell you but they're all boring."
"I got so much from so many people. It's crazy what people say in such a public space. Okay I'm going, bye."
"Bye baby." I set the phone down, Fatima crossing her arms over. "Any reason?"
"James Foley is currently in a mall ten minutes away." Calum jumps up. "That bitch. Okay he's dead when I see him."
"Yeah. But why did it take that long to have that conversation?" She asks. "I dont know. I had to make sure they were safe. We are going now."
"Yeah go on then." She waves us off and we were back in the car within seconds. "Kylie is with them right?"
"Yeah but I didn't tell her that. So either Kylie is getting bad at his job or she's some kind of wizard."
"It would not surprise me if it came out that she was a witch. Like at all." I shook my head slowly. "Nope. I think it would honestly make more sense than anything does now."
