Sitting across the table from her was always hell. But we were having dinner with everybody and her dad, Emily was here too. She'd ended up next to Hailey and John.

I was sat at the end of the table. Watching her every move.

I tired to eat my food before it got cold but I spent most of the diner just staring. "You're acting like she's someone you can't have." Daniel laughed. "She's just so pretty."

"Yeah I'm aware thank you. Maybe tell her." I nodded, her eyes glancing up at me. "I told her- many times. Hundreds of times."

"Oh, that's so cute. Really?" The waitress stood at the end of the table. "Of course. Hi, can you send- her, a drink, this drink. And then can you also give her this note please."

She nodded, walking away shaking her head.
"Why?" Calum asked. "Because it's funny."

Emily glared at me. I pulled a face at her, watching her flip me off. "Mother fucker." She throws the bread roll at me. I caught it in my mouth like some kind of dog.

Flipping her off. "You really are just a little dog." Daniel mumbled. I watched the waitress set the drink down, fighting back a smile. "What did the note even say?" Calum asked.

I watched her take down the entire drink in three seconds.

I don't think I've ever been more attracted to anybody before in my life. "She's my dream girl." Daniel snickered. "He's serious."

"I am. Dead serious." I waved my fingers at her, watching her blow me a kiss. "Seriously what did the note say?" Calum repeats.

"The most vile, perverted things I have ever written in my life. If I burn up in flames then that note is the reason why."

"You couldn't have said that quietly? I didn't want to know- Lorenzo. Hi." John rolls his eyes. Sitting down beside Daniel because it was the only place free. "Kylie is annoying me. Harry switch places."

"He'll start playing footsies with you." Calum says. "True. Calum you switch places with me." Calum kisses my cheek. Moving over toward the seat closer to Hailey. "You could just stay there."

"I would rather die, Daniel. I'll be honest." Daniel pouts. "What have I even done?"

"Killed a bunch of people." He spoke out like it wasn't the most obvious answer. "Hey I said I was sorry. And it's your job to clean up dead people so you can't judge me."

"I can. I am actively judging you." Daniel folds his arms over. "For what?"

"Your gambling addiction, your hobbies, your jeans, your attitude." I feel like I shouldn't be here. I feel like I'm interrupting something.

"If you don't like my jeans then take them off." John stuck his thumb down. "Boring."

"Your attitude is worse than mine. You're mean and absolutely pathetic and you're ignorant. Really, I mean there's not a single good quality about you."

John hums. "What?" My god I wish I swapped. "Please both of you shut up." Atlas stands behind me, her hands resting on my neck with her chin on my head. "Dad please stop arguing. You are going to make a scene."

"Arms race." Daniel mumbled. "Part of me wishes my mother had cut your tongue off."

"Oh- Ace. That's not funny. Lorenzo beat her up for me." John shook his head. "You are insufferable. I should've stayed over there."

"Kylie is over there." I said. "Kylie is here. What are you love birds talking about?" Daniel smiles. "Lorenzos unabashedly flirting with me. After so many years of secrets."

"I am not. He is irritating me." John mumbled out, staring down at his plate. "He's flirting with me with his eyes."

He was. "He looks like he wants you dead." Kylie laughed. "Flirting with me."

"Luke make him stop." I forget how pretty John is until he's up close. It's not wonder Daniel's spent his whole life chasing him.

"I can't make him do anything- why are you stood up." I pull her around. Sitting her on my lap. "Can I have another one of those drinks."

"Yeah. Daniel stop it. You're gonna make him uncomfortable." Daniel smiled at him. "I'm sorry Lorenzo."

"It's fine- Kylie I'm gonna kill you if you ask me one more time." Kylie sits back in his seat. His hands under the table as she picks at his nails.

"Yes I will take you to get some ice cream. Just, let's finish eating and then we can go." He scratches the top of Kylies head. The slight smile on Kylies face growing quick. "Okay."

It was a good thing I carried an extra jumper in my car. She was always cold and I know my jacket wouldn't have done anything.

"Don't have little knife pockets in there too?" I nod, watching her smile at me. "Don't ever just not have them?"

"Going through the airport. Usually they're in my bag." Hailey drops her head against my arm. "I'm so tired. I want to go to bed."

"This is why you're not allowed wine. I'll take you home. You stay with the others okay. Have fun." Atlas stands up on her toes as I lean down to kiss her gently. "I'll be awake so call me if you need anything."

"Okay." Calum kisses my cheek. "I will take wonderful care of her I promise. You, my beautiful angel I will think of you the whole time." Even being used to it, it was shocking.

"You are so drunk." I said. "I am but she is so so beautiful. God you're so pretty." He falls into her. I pulled Atlas in for another kiss while he said his goodbyes.

"You feeling okay? Has your dad done anything stupid? Cause I can lock him in a cage." She brushes her thumb over the corner of my mouth. "Everything is good. I'm happy."

"Good. It will stay that way. Okay, I'm going. I'll see you at home. Let's go sunshine." She stumbled over a little. Calum dragging Atlas away as he hugged her. "Can we drink water? Lots of water? I feel so sick."

"You want the cold water or- normal water?" She shrugged. "I'll drink any water."

"We can stop off at the gas station. I'll get you some water." She throws her arms up. "Yes.."

She takes her shoes off, letting out a deep sigh. "Oh that is so much better. Will you hold can hold my hand? I'm a little scared."

"Yeah. Why are you scared?" She tucks the hair behind her ear as I take the shoes from her hand. "I don't him to hurt me again."

"Who?" I looked back, all of them were back in the place we'd gone after, I'm not sure what it was. "Not them. I'm not sure who he was. I just, feel safter if you hold my hand."

"We're gonna go straight home then okay. Keep you safter." She laughs as I buckle her seatbelt. "You're so nice to me. You're so nice to Atlas. I'm glad you're not dead."

"Me too." Checking the back seats, I moved quickly into my seat before locking the doors. "You are as safe as can be, I promise." She rests her head on her hand. "Yeah. Can I play music?"

"Yeah. The cds are there or the radio is that one." She'd gone through the entire collection and landed on the first one she picked up.

But she'd fallen asleep half way through the drive. Carrying her into the house wasn't as easy as I'd thought it would be.

I was trying to be as careful as I could. Lying her down on her bed, checking every room in the house before I went back to her. "I need to get the makeup off your face Hails."

"It's fine." She mumbled. "No. I'll be quick I promise. You're gonna end up irritated if you don't. Same with your clothes. I'll put a shirt over you and then you can do the rest."

She really didn't make it easy, but I got there. Letting her sleep but leaving the door open, sitting on the seat beside the couch so that I could see her.

Usually I'd just spend the time drinking or something, but the idea of it just made me feel queasy. Now was just sat waiting for Atlas to get back. I wanted her to have fun but I wanted her back here with me now.
