Lia was in the middle of an unusually peaceful afternoon when her phone rang. The tranquility was shattered as soon as she saw the caller ID: the local police station. Her heart sank a little as she picked up, already sensing that this was going to be one of those days.
"Hello?" she answered cautiously.
"Hello, is this Lia?" The voice on the other end was polite but firm.
"Yes, that's me. Is everything okay?" she asked, bracing herself for the worst.
"We have three individuals here at the station who claim to be your... friends. A Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, and Lando Norris," the officer informed her. "We need you to come and pick them up."
Lia sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Of course. I'll be there as soon as I can."
She grabbed her keys and hurried out, muttering to herself about how this was going to be a long afternoon. When she arrived at the station, she found Max, Daniel, and Lando sitting in the waiting area, looking a mix of bored and mildly amused.
"Really?" Lia said, hands on her hips as she approached them. "What did you three do?"
"It's not as bad as it sounds," Daniel started, but the mischievous grin on his face suggested otherwise.
Max, always the confident one, simply shrugged. "It was just a misunderstanding."
Lia raised an eyebrow. "A misunderstanding that landed you in a police station?"
Lando chuckled, unable to help himself. "Yeah, well... when you hear the full story, you might see why."
Lia sighed again, signing the necessary paperwork to get them released. Once that was done, she ushered them all out to her car, determined to get them home without further incident.
When they finally pulled up to the house, Checo was pacing anxiously by the door, Oscar was sitting on the steps, clearly worried, and Seb was standing with his arms crossed, looking every bit the concerned parent.
As soon as the car stopped, Checo rushed over to Max, pulling him into a tight hug. "Max, are you okay? What happened?"
Oscar wasn't far behind, practically dragging Lando out of the car to check him over. "You scared the hell out of me! What were you thinking?"
Seb, ever the responsible one, took in the scene with a mixture of relief and frustration. "Daniel, Lando, Max—what on earth were you three doing?"
Max, finally free from Checo's fussing, opened his mouth to explain, but Lia beat him to it, her voice dripping with exasperation and amusement. "You want to know what happened? They got stopped by a cop. And when the officer asked them for their IDs, Max pointed at his face and said, 'Google it, bitch.'"
There was a beat of silence before the entire group erupted in laughter. Checo shook his head, though a smile tugged at his lips. "Seriously, Max?"
Max just shrugged, clearly not as remorseful as he probably should have been. "It's not like I was wrong."
Daniel chuckled, throwing an arm around Max's shoulders. "In his defense, it was pretty funny at the time."
Oscar, still a bit shaken, looked between them. "But did you really have to say that? You could've just shown your ID."
Lando grinned, clearly enjoying the situation a little too much. "Where's the fun in that?"
Seb, though amused, managed to keep a more serious tone. "You three need to be more careful. We can't have you getting into trouble like this."
"Yeah, yeah, we get it," Max replied, though his tone was more playful than serious.
Lia shook her head, finally able to relax now that the chaos was over. "Next time, maybe just show your ID like normal people?"
Max smirked. "No promises."
As the laughter died down and everyone began to head inside, Lia couldn't help but chuckle to herself. It was never a dull moment with this group, and while they might drive her crazy sometimes, she wouldn't have it any other way.
