Pete had just arrived home from turning in his assignments, he looked at the time seeing it was almost 2PM and he wasn't even near being ready.
He felt the excitement rush through his body as he tried finding an outfit. "What do you wear to a café?" He kept asking himself questions but got no answer.
He pushed off finding an outfit and went to take a quick shower, he stood in the mirror and blow dried his black wavy hair. He did his skin care then added a light blush to his puffy cheeks, he then applied a pinkish netrual tinted lip balm to his lips.
Pete was carefully selecting his outfit, trying to find the perfect balance between casual and stylish. He opted for a crisp white button-down shirt and dark denim jeans, finishing off the look with white converses.
Pete grabbed his mini bag and headed downstairs, he was surprised to see Vegas in the middle of the living room chatting with his Nanna with a bright smile. Vegas didn't mention picking him so Pete was genuinely confused, they noticed him as his foot hit the last step.
Nanna: It would've been nice to know about this little date! But you kids have fun!!
Pete: Sorry nanna, it completely slipped my mind.
Nanna: just go and have fun.
She kissed his forehead and walked them to the front door. Vegas gave a polite bow before walking towards the car, Pete kissed his nanna's cheek then went toward the car.
Vegas opened the door for Pete which caused his cheeks to burn. Pete wasn't used to this kind of treatment and it made him a little uncomfortable. However it made him feel like he was finally being seen, as if he was prince with royal treatment. The ride was peaceful and silent, No one dared to speak a word, Pete would steal slight glances at Vegas who smirked noticing.
As they made their way into the café, Pete couldn't hide his excitement. The warm glow of the lights and the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked pastries greeted them as they occupied a cozy corner table by the window.
Vegas: Order anything and as much as you want, it's on me.
Pete: But-
Vegas ignored Pete's attempt to argue and gave him the menu, the sly smile on his face told Pete that he was serious. Pete ordered a cappuccino and a powdered scone, while Vegas opted for a chai latte.
The rich flavors could be smelt from miles away, it left a calm atmosphere around the shop for the costumers. They talked and laughed, completely lost in the moment. The soft piano playing in the background added to the peace, making the evening feel even more special.
With every sip and every smile shared, Vegas knew that this was just the beginning of many more wonderful moments to come. He was determined to turn Pete's life around, he didn't know his own feelings but he felt as it was right.
Vegas: So you're still kind of new and unfamiliar with this town?
Pete: Well um, I started living with Nanna a few months ago and I guess it wasn't the best start because of..... You know!! I haven't had the opportunity to explore this side of town.
Vegas: Let me be your guide then, I can take you to see all the beauty of Bangkok!
Pete stayed silent for a minute as he stared into Vegas's eyes, as if he was searching for something among those beautiful black like eyes.
Pete: ........ Why are you doing this?
Vegas was stunned at the sudden change of tension, he stared into Pete's eyes as he tried to find the right words. He found hope, sadness, and sparks of slight happiness among his beautiful grey eyes.
Vegas: I don't understand my feelings either but this just feels right, the first time I saw you; it felt like a spell was cast on me that I just can't give up easily. The pain in your eyes told me everything, but now when I look into them; I see hope. I want to get to know you more!!
Pete's eyes were slightly watering as he listened, this stranger who suddenly came into his life is giving him more attention than his parents ever did. He pulled himself together before he could drown in those sad and traumatizing memories.
Vegas: Look, I know this is too soon but I want to be there for you, I want to be that person who makes you smile daily, the person who you can call when you need a hand.
Pete: I- I don't know what to say! Please give me time.
Vegas: You can take all the time you want, I'm willing to wait. I don't want to leave you in the shadows, I will tell you this and you can decide for yourself.
Pete: Huh? What do you mean?
Vegas: I take part in the mafia world, I've had to take over ever since my pa past away. All his businesses were illegal and I'm trying my best to make them legal because I want Macau to be safe. I just hope you know I'm not a bad person and will never hurt someone innocent.
Pete: I have a serious question, are you the guy who chased me from an alley a few months ago? Was that also you strolling up and down my neighborhood sidewalk late at night?
Vegas: Ahhh, I'm very sorry, the first night was a complete accident. A guard mistaken you for an enemy. I do apologize for that, and the whole sidewalk thing, um- actually I was collecting somethings stolen from me, I was standing infront of your house because I was gonna check on you but decided it would be weird. Sorry for creeping you out.
Pete: Thank you for telling me, I can finally sleep at night without worrying!
Suddenly someone came to the table with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry but we close in ten minutes, are you ready for your bill?" the waiter asked.
Vegas: Ah, yes. Thank you for your service!
Vegas paid for their bill and left the shop, neither of them realized how long they were sitting until they looked up at the almost night sky. The night ended with a short walk alongside the river with ice cream and more laughter. Pete couldn't remember the last time he's been this happy, it was all new and weird to him but he liked it.
Vegas drove Pete back home as the night came to an end, Pete thanked him before going inside after biding goodnight. Vegas drove off with a smile after making sure Pete was inside.
He went home and checked on Macau seeing him asleep at his desk with homework all over. He chuckled as he woke his brother and led him to bed and tucked him in for night. Vegas isn't as scary as other paint him to be, when he loves someone; he takes care of them as if it was the only job in the world. Vegas then went to his own room and showered before immediately tangling himself in the blankets; a much needed sleep pulling him in for the night.
