We were led to a prison cell somewhere below their temple. It stunk like hell, reminded me of rotten meat and human piss. I couldn't breathe down there. They locked me and Bellatrix up in the cell together, Drake, though, they led up away somewhere outside. They pushed us inside and the same guy who found us sneaking around smiled at me peacefully and said:
"You will be free by dawn, poor sinner," as he said that, he left us alone. They untied our hands so I tried to reach him and grab him by his long gown, but failed and he laughed at my face. Soon their steps disappeared far away.
I leaned against the wall, closing my eyes and trying to comprehend what has just happened. So first we were captured by a religious cult, then their leader told us... what exactly? That they will kiss us to free our souls from the sin of witchcraft, then Bellatrix appeared to be... I gave her a quick look, she was trying to loosen the bars by shaking them with all the power she had left. I jumped at her and pressed her against the wall so quickly that she couldn't react to it. I was furious to find out what she had to do with everything happening in this city. There was a reason why she didn't want to tell about her past or anything about herself at all and I was ready to beat that information out of her if I needed to.
"What are you?" I looked at her, squinting my eyes. She looked surprised by my actions, but I sensed no fear in her.
"Easy, chill out fam. No need to be so extra." she tried to remove my arm from pressing on her chest, but I didn't let her, instead feeling even more obliged to get that information.
"Why were those people saying that you are a witch?"
"Why were they saying that same thing about you, fam? I am not the only one here that keeps secrets, so you should probably understand why I do that." she looked at me, trying to seem trustful, but my questions were not over.
"Alright, next one. Why did they say that my friend was one of them? Don't lie to me that you don't know. It seemed to me like you and that man had a connection already, so I know you two know each other." I felt a flame rising inside of me. I didn't know if there was a point in getting all of this out of her if we were going to be killed soon anyway. But if it's so than there should be no reason for her to hide anything too.
"He had that.. cross thingy on his chest. They give it to every baby that is born within these walls. That's all I know, I swear. Now don't be a backstabber and let go of me." she pushed me away and I didn't protest. It was so hard to believe that Drake was one of them. How could that even be true?
I closed my eyes with my palms, exhaling deeply. I wish Drake was here to explain everything to me, and I wish he didn't know about his heritage and was just as surprised as I was today, but what if he did? What if he lied all this time? I couldn't survive the thought of that for he was the only person whom I actually trusted.
"What kind of witch are you?", I asked her once I removed my palms.
"I own fire," she said. "And I'm not a witch. That's just how those freaks call it. In fact we are all just mutants, even them. They can sense the mutant energy so they keep finding me all the time, no matter how many times I escape or how far away I run. Weirdos."
I thought to myself that owning fire is way better than having telekinesis. I couldn't do much with it, I didn't have enough creativity except using it to throw objects or killing people, which was useless here, because even if I killed one person, we would still be surrounded by hundreds more.
"We won't spend too much time in this cooler, give you my promise."
"This is the first time I meet someone like me..." I said out loud and Bellatrix turned to me and chuckled.
