But…" RM began, his brow furrowed slightly. "It doesn’t feel like home."
The others nodded in agreement. No matter how grand the mansion was, it lacked the warmth and comfort of home. It was a beautiful house, but it felt too cold, too empty. And while Y/N had taken them in, her cold demeanor made it hard for them to feel truly welcomed.
Jin, ever the eldest, placed a reassuring hand on RM's shoulder. "We'll make it work. We just have to give it time."
The others nodded, though they still couldn’t shake the lingering unease in their hearts.
As the boys sat quietly in the living room, discussing how strange and foreign the mansion felt, Y/N overheard their conversation while passing by. Their words struck a chord deep within her, though she tried to suppress the flicker of emotion that stirred inside her. She paused for a moment before calling one of the maids to her side.
"Arrange some snacks for them," Y/N instructed the maid with her usual calm, cool tone. "And make them feel at home. Give them the TV remote, let them know they can watch whatever they like. Make sure they’re comfortable."
The maid nodded and quickly went to carry out Y/N’s instructions. She brought out an assortment of snacks—cookies, chips, fruit, and drinks—laying them on the table in front of the boys. Then, in a subtle but deliberate gesture, she handed over the TV remote.
The boys were taken aback at first. They glanced at each other, unsure if they were really allowed to touch anything. Jungkook hesitantly took the remote, his fingers brushing over the buttons.
The maid smiled kindly at them. "Miss Y/N asked that you all feel comfortable here," she said softly. "This is your home now. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask."
For a moment, the boys were silent, processing her words. They had expected Y/N to be distant, cold, and uninterested in them. But this small gesture, even if it came through a maid, made them feel… cared for, in a way they hadn’t anticipated.
Jin gave a small smile as he reached for a cookie. "Thank you," he said, looking at the maid, though he knew the thanks was also meant for Y/N.
As the boys settled in, turning on the TV and choosing a light comedy show to watch, the atmosphere in the room began to change. It wasn’t much, but for the first time since they arrived, there was a sense of ease, even a hint of joy. They laughed at the jokes on the screen, joked around with each other, and snacked like carefree kids.
From her room, Y/N listened to the sound of their laughter filtering through the halls. She didn’t show it, but her heart softened just a little. Perhaps, she thought, it wasn’t so bad having them around after all. But true to her nature, she kept her distance, still unwilling to let them—or anyone—get too close.
The day passed quietly, with the boys exploring the mansion and adjusting to their new life. They ate lunch and dinner together, enjoying the warmth of each other’s company, though Y/N remained noticeably absent the entire day. It felt strange, as though she were a ghost who came and went without leaving much of a trace.
The next morning, the boys were gathered around the breakfast table again, anxiously awaiting their first day of school and college. Y/N finally joined them, sitting at the head of the table, her expression as unreadable as always.
As they ate, Y/N looked up from her meal. "I’ve arranged for your enrollment at your respective schools and colleges," she said in her calm, businesslike voice. "Your classes begin today."
The boys nodded, paying close attention as she continued.
"If you want me to drop you off, I can," she said casually, "or you can walk or take the bus. Your schools are close enough to the house."
After exchanging a few glances with one another, Jin finally spoke up. "We’ll walk, Noona," he said politely. The others nodded in agreement.
Y/N didn’t argue. "Alright," she replied coolly. "But if you ever want a ride, just let me know."
