The sound of noisy cars and muffled yelling filled Milori's ears. She groaned, taking her pillow and covering her ears. Desperately attempting to drown out the cavalcade of sensory reaching her ears. But to no avail, the pillow merely muffling the sounds. She got up, her hair a mess along with her room. She smacked her lips together, still tired from the night before. When had she gone to sleep again? She didnt bother to try and remember.
Milori didnt want to get up, she felt like her body was glued to her bed. Dread pooling in her stomach at the idea of moving. "Miss Stark? Its time to wake up." Jarvis called, his cold voice flooding her ears. Milori grunted, grabbing one of her pillows and throwing it at the speaker in her room. "Fuck off Jarvis..." She grumbled, curling up under the covers.
"Miss Stark, if you dont get up il be forced to take away your internet." He reminded her.
Milori let out a loud groan and slowly got up, dragging her feet every step of the way as she got up. Putting no effort into her outfit, not bothering to brush her teeth or hair. Though her teeth were decently healthy they had been stained a bit yellow by this point. "God dammit Jarvis." She grunted, stepping out of her room, the floor of the main house much cleaner and less dirty. Her room was filled with wrappers and dirty laundry everywhere. She saw no point in cleaning it. It would just get dirty again.
"Miss Stark, would you like me to turn on the TV?" Jarvis asked, not even bothering to attempt to stop her form wolfing down a bag of chips for breakfast. Milori shook her head, "No." She rudely answered. Flopping down onto the couch, the morning light pooling through the windows. Milori grunted, looking at the date on her phone. December seventh 20XX. She nearly choked on her food when she saw the date. "Miss Stark? Is something wrong?" Jarvis asked. Milori paused, coughing up the chip. "Everythings fine. Leave me alone Jarvis." She demanded, clearly hiding something as she walked to the living room area of the penthouse.
In all honesty Milori didnt know why she lived there in the first place. Her Dad had expressly bought the house for her, sure he had a room. But it was mainly for her. Most kids would call that a miracle. Not having to deal with their parents. And in truth Milori didnt want to stare at Tonys face, but it also carried a undercurrent of spite.
"Wheres Tony?" Milori asked, not really caring as she walked down the stairs from the second level.
"Hes out with his interns-" Before Jarvis could finish Milori interrupted him with a scoff.
"So hes out with Peter?" Jarvis didnt answer. Milori grit her teeth. Of course he was out with Peter. He was always out with Peter. Every day she had to be reminded of how much her father wished he was his kid instead of her. She was smarter than him. But that didnt matter. Because Peter wasnt a failure. Tony had never said that. But it sure as hell felt like he had.
Milori turned on the news, flopping down on the expensive sofa. Letting the mindless jabber of the dumb news anker fill her ears. She had noticed news channels having a pattern. It was always some guy you recognized as the main anchor. And the co anchor would be some blonde chick. It was annoying but it was normal. That was how most of her life was though.. The weather man spoke, his voice muffled by Miloris disinterest. Something about it being cloudy. She grumbled,
"Jarvis. What time is it?" She asked.
"Its eleven twenty three in the morning miss Stark." He echoed back. Milori sighed, she still had some time.
Milori got up from the couch and looked at her outfit, old jeans and an oversized shirt. It worked well enough. She grabbed an old lined leather jacket to wear outside. Putting on some boots and leaving the penthouse. The elevator ride was quiet, it always was. No endearing elevator music or obnoxious radio. Just silence. She stepped out onto the bottom floor and walked out the lobby door into the city. It was gray, it always was. Big concrete buildings and bland advertising. It was a bit grayer than normal though, the sky no longer being a break from the normalcy. The sky cloudy and grey just like the city. Milori grumbled and walked to the bustop.
"I should be able to catch the bus on time..." She thought to herself. Checking her phone as she waited at the bustop. She heard faint whispering from beside her. Another woman in the bustop with her son. He looked at her with starry excited eyes.
"Are you Milori Stark?" Milori frowned. Anytime anybody asked her this it always meant they would ask about her stupid father. She scoffed rudely.
"No." She grunted. The kids excitement shattered. Their mother, rightfully– was a bit caught off guard.
"Excuse me but-" The bus arrived, making Milori sigh.
"I said no. Now leave me alone." She interrupted her. Getting onto the bus and putting on her hood and just listening to her music. She could spot rain drops beginning to coat the windows.
"Great... rain." She thought to herself. She had a love hate relationship with rain. On one hand it was lovely to fall asleep to, or as an excuse not to step outside her shame palace. But it also made you feel like shit. And this was a day that she needed to feel like this the least.
Milori got off the bus, accidentally stepping in a puddle. She grumbled and walked onto the plot of land. Looking around until she saw the headstone. Walking over and sitting down infront of it. She held back her tears, her eyes stinging as the first teardrops felt. She held her face in her hands and cried. God she missed her... She missed her Mom. The headstone read: Lynn Marie Jhones 20WW - 20XX, mother and inventor.
Milori sniffled and sobbed, ugly tears slipped from her scrunched up devestated face. It hurt... God why couldnt it have been Tony? Milori didnt care that he helped people. That he invented things that saved people and inspired others. SHE DIDNT CARE. She knew she was selfish, but she wanted to be happy. She wanted HER Mom. She wanted her happiness. Was it too much to ask..?
She sighed and laid down on the wet grass, looking up into the sky as rain fell. She let out a small laugh.
"It is too much to ask. Isnt it..?"
