Beneath the Surface

Meher and Aditya return to the old house after their breakfast. The atmosphere in the house feels a little heavier, the warmth of the morning giving way to something deeper and more complex.

Meher stands by the window, lost in thought, her gaze distant as she looks out at the snow-covered landscape.

Aditya - walking up behind her, gently placing his hands on her shoulders
What are you thinking about?

Meher - startled slightly, then smiling softly
Just... memories. This place brings a lot of them back.

Aditya - Good memories, I hope?

Meher - pausing, choosing her words carefully.
Some good, some... not so much. But they're important all the same.

Aditya - turning her towards him
You know you can talk to me about anything, right?

Meher - nodding
I know. It's just that some things are better left in the past. They don't belong here, with us now.

Aditya - Meher, if this place is stirring up painful memories for you, we don't have to stay here.

Meher - No, it's not that. I wanted to bring you here because it's part of who I am. Even if some of the memories are difficult, they're still a part of me. And you deserve to know all of me.

Aditya - I'm here for you. No matter what.

Meher - Thank you, Aditya. That means more to me than you know.

Later that evening, they sit by the fire in the cozy living room. The crackling of the fire is the only sound in the room. Meher seems lost in thought again, and Aditya watches her quietly, sensing her unease but unsure how to approach it.

Aditya - Meher, can I ask you something?

Meher - Of course.

Aditya - What is it about this house? You said it has sentimental value, but I get the feeling there's more to it than that.

Meher - There is more. This house... it belonged to a family. I used to come here when I was younger, every winter. It was our retreat from the world. But 3 years back they passed away.

Aditya - I didn't know that. You've never mentioned it before.

Meher - I haven't. It's... complicated. There were good times here, but also some very hard times.

Aditya - I'm so sorry, Meher. I didn't know.

Meher - It's okay. It was a long time ago, but every time I come here, I feel their presence. Sometimes it's comforting, but other times... it's like the weight of everything we went through is still here, lingering in the walls.

Aditya - Is that why you've kept this place a secret?

Meher - It's hard to explain, but I've always felt like this house holds a piece of my heart. Coming here brings back so many memories, both good and bad. And now, I want to make new memories here—with you.

Aditya - We can create something beautiful here, Meher. We'll fill this house with love and joy, just like it deserves.

Meher - I'd like that. I really would.
Meher thinking - Just one more night and I'll tell you all the truth behind this, Aditya

The next morning, Meher and Aditya stand outside the old house, bundled up against the cold, ready to explore more of Gulmarg. The snow glistens in the sunlight, and there's a renewed sense of hope in the air.
