The Past
Meher and Vivaan had always been more than friends—they were family. Their families had been close for years, and from the moment Vivaan lost his parents at the age of twelve, Meher's family had taken him in. They became inseparable, sharing their childhood, their dreams, and eventually, their hearts.
Vivaan, older than Meher, had been there for her through everything, and when they turned sixteen, Vivaan realized his feelings for Meher. He confessed his love to her, and they began dating, their connection deepening with every passing year. For four years, their bond seemed unbreakable, and Meher thought nothing could ever come between them.
One fateful day, they went to the beach, their favorite place. The warm sunlight kissed their skin as they walked along the shoreline, their laughter filling the air, the world around them perfect and calm. Little did they know that this peaceful day would soon turn into their worst nightmare.
Vivaan - "Meher, this place will always be special for us. Do you remember?
Meher - smiling softly, squeezing his hand
"Yes, of course. This is the place where our love story began!"
But then, out of nowhere, the tranquil atmosphere shattered. A distant screech of tires echoed through the air, and before they could comprehend what was happening, the sound of gunshots rang through the beach, shattering the calm. Meher's heart raced as the shock of the situation hit her.
Meher - "Vivaan! Yeh kya ho raha hai?"
(Vivaan! What's happening?)
Vivaan's body tensed, his eyes scanning the area, trying to make sense of the sudden attack. Fear clawed at him as he realized this wasn't some random incident. The shots were meant for him.
His pulse raced as he instinctively pulled Meher close to him, shielding her as best as he could.
Vivaan - voice shaking but urgent
"Meher, jaldi chalo! Humey yahan se nikalna hoga!"
(Meher, we need to go! We have to leave now!)
They ran together, both confused and scared, trying to outrun the attackers. But Vivaan knew something that Meher didn't yet. He was the target.
The realization struck him like a bolt of lightning—whoever was shooting at them was after him. It was no coincidence. The attackers weren't just random strangers; they were after his life. He had to protect Meher, but in that moment, he knew the only way to keep her safe was to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Meher - "Vivaan, hum kahan jaa rahe hain? Kya ho raha hai?"
(Vivaan, where are we going? What's happening?)
Vivaan led Meher to an abandoned building, its cold, crumbling walls bearing the weight of long-forgotten secrets. He stopped in the middle of the darkened room, his face pale, eyes distant, as if the past had come crashing into the present with a force he couldn't escape.
"Meher," he started, his voice low, strained, "this... this is where it all began." His hands clenched into fists, his body trembling with memories too painful to relive. "These were the people who murdered my parents. I saw it all... I was the witness."
Meher's breath caught in her throat, confusion and fear flickering across her face. "Vivaan, what are you saying? Why... why are you telling me this now?"
He looked at her, his eyes darkened with pain, the weight of the truth crushing him. "I never thought they'd come back. I thought I was safe, that my past was behind me. But now they're back... and they won't stop until they get what they want. And I... I'm their target." His voice cracked, and for a moment, it was as if the walls around him were closing in.
He stepped closer to Meher, grabbing her hands in his, desperate to make her understand. "I never thought I'd have to leave you, Meher. I thought we had more time... But it's either me or them now. If I stay with you, if I don't go, they'll hurt you, everyone. If I hide now, if I don't disappear, I'll be putting everyone's life at risk." His eyes were pleading, as if he could somehow erase the truth, but deep down, he knew it was too late.
Tears filled Meher's eyes as she shook her head in disbelief. "Vivaan, no... please, don't leave me. We can fight this together."
He took a shaky breath, his heart breaking with every word he had to say. "I wish we could, Meher. But I can't risk it. You deserve better than this life. You deserve to be safe... and I can't give you that if I stay."
Meher and Vivaan stood facing each other, the silence between them louder than any words could ever be. Neither of them had the strength to speak, yet everything they'd ever felt for each other hung in the air, heavy and fragile. The world had already decided their fate, but neither of them could accept it. Their hearts screamed, begging for just one more moment, one more chance—but life was cruel.
Vivaan's hands shook as he reached for Meher, his fingers grazing her face, as if touching her one last time could somehow make this hurt less. Meher closed her eyes, leaning into his touch, fighting the overwhelming wave of tears that threatened to spill. "Vivaan... I can't—" she whispered, but the words stuck, too painful to say.
He pulled her into his arms, desperate, as if this final embrace would somehow freeze time. "Meher..." Vivaan's voice was hoarse, breaking with the weight of everything he couldn't say. "I never wanted this. I never wanted to leave you." He could barely breathe, knowing this moment would change everything.
Meher's hands gripped his shirt, her heart aching in ways words could never capture. "I can't live without you, Vivaan," she sobbed, her voice trembling. "I don't want to say goodbye."
Vivaan pressed his forehead to hers, their breaths coming fast and shallow. "You won't have to live without love, Meher," he said, each word tearing at him. "Promise me, promise me that you'll find someone who can love you like I did. Someone who can give you everything I couldn't." His voice cracked, and a tear fell down his cheek, but he smiled through the pain, his hands cupping her face with the tenderness of a man who knew he was about to lose everything. "Promise me you'll marry him, even if you never forget me. Because I'll never forget you."
The words hit her like a wave. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't move. He was asking her to let go, to move on, and it felt like a part of her was dying with those words. She opened her mouth to speak, but all she could do was cry.
"I can't... Vivaan, please don't ask me to do this," she choked out.
He kissed her forehead softly, his hands trembling as he held her tighter. "You will, Meher. For both of us. You'll be happy, I know you will. And you'll remember me... always, in your heart."
The tears were unstoppable now, flooding their faces, mingling together in one final, heartbreaking goodbye. But despite the ocean of pain between them, despite the fact that their hearts were breaking, they smiled. It wasn't a smile of happiness. It wasn't even a smile of hope. It was the kind of smile you give when you know you're losing the one person you were meant to be with, but you'll carry their love with you forever.
Meher's voice cracked as she spoke, through her tears, "I will always love you, Vivaan. I'll never forget you. Never."
Vivaan kissed her one last time, the softest, most painful kiss they'd ever shared. "I'll be with you, always. In your heart. In your memories. I'll never really leave you."
And then, they pulled away, both of them shaking, both of them broken. Vivaan by telling his last words "And trust me, we will meet again, because kisi cheez ko shiddat se chaho to poori kainaat miladeti hai." turned, his chest tightening with each step he took away from her, but before he could walk any further, he turned back, their eyes meeting one final time. They shared a smile, a silent promise that no matter where life took them, they would never truly be apart.
With one last look, Vivaan disappeared into the distance, leaving Meher standing there, broken yet somehow full of love, clinging to the memory of a love that could never be.
. . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . .
she turned to look back, her eyes searching for him, but she saw nothing but the empty beach.
But it was too late. Meher never saw Vivaan again. The last time she looked, she saw him falling, and the world around her shattered. That day, she lost more than just Vivaan. She lost herself, her hope, and her future
