Carson
I stared at my phone screen a moment, not sure what to make of the call I just had. The call I had instigated, and was almost immediately hung up on.
Those very eyes shifted from my phone screen to the glass of whiskey on my terrace's intimately sized round table. It was beautiful outside this evening, the cool temperatures of fall starting to bare their face as we entered the Autumn season. I glance past the rail of the terrace to the city below me and the business that the Sunday evening still brought it.
The whiskey was the only reason I felt motivated to call Don and give him a piece of my mind, however his answer had just about stopped me in my tracks.
Him flirting with Collin wasn't just a ploy to use my date's sexuality against me. The man had actually taken an interest in him... and I couldn't tell whether I was less or more enraged.
First, this meant that Don might actually have a shred of a moral code in him. I highly doubted it, however he sounded genuinely taken back that I had thought him to do something like that. Second, this meant that whatever attraction Collin had for the old ass hag, had the opportunity to actually be something, and that only meant I under no circumstances could have Collin and him meet again.
Granted, I had absolutely no plans to do that in the first fucking place... but now that choice was cemented.
Regardless of these many questions circulating through my head, I didn't have the time to deal with them. Instead, I thought to myself, opening up my laptop on the same table this glass of whiskey was on. Instead, I needed to review the email Mike had sent out to all employees. Apparently there was some sort of leak in the building that they would need to fix, so in the interest of the workplace environment, John had Mike draft an email to strongly encourage employees to work from home tomorrow during the construction.
We all used our laptops to connect via a docking station, so we all had the capabilities to work from home, however John requested those who chose to, needed to register through the intranet on a temporary online submission he made.
My responsibilities now were to review that list and document that those employees will not be on site. As soon as this message was sent to staff, I immediately saw that registration list grow. To be granted a Work From Home day on a Monday was to be loved, in the eyes of Terry Enterprises Employees... Yet as I scanned through the growing list of names, I realized one wasn't there.
Don Whittaker.
The edges of my lips curled themselves up into a slight smile. I was now questioning whether he would take the day, or return. Don's commitment to coming in was strong, however this week had very clearly changed things.
It was a mystery with as little backstory as Don himself.
By the time Monday rolled around, I found myself getting up earlier than even I usually had. Perhaps earlier than I ever had. My body stirred to wake by five in the morning.
