I have never in all my fucking years been as nervous as I was now for anyone to try my cooking.

Vivian had assured me that everything surely turned out divine, and the relaxing cup of tea we shared together over some lovely conversation about the expansion of her garden, soothed me some, but the nerves came crashing back as soon as we all got seated at the set table.

"Oh well this is one lovely arrangement," Kenneth noted once he sat down, gesturing to the set plates. That at least eased a bit more of my wracking nerves.

Vivian was kind enough to show me where all the dishes were while everyone else was still out, but I insisted she take a seat in the living room and relax while I finished setting the table, before I brought us both some tea to chat over.

"Sara and I will start bringing out the dishes," Louise noted, standing with her wife.

"I can hel-" I started to insist as I stood.

But Louise shut me down swiftly with one stern "sit back down." And that successfully got me seated.

Between the two of them, it didn't take long at all to start seeing platters and bowls of food filing out. "Fuck-"

"Language," Kenneth cut his grandchild off.

"Fudge," Em then corrected herself, "that looks and smells amazing. Seriously, you did so good Don."

"I assure you," I was quick with, "none of this would be possible without my fabulous taste testers." I gestured to Carson who sat on my left, and Dylan who sat on my right, nestled between myself and Em. This was a massive ten seating dining room table, with Kenneth at the head of the table adjacent to Em, then Em faced Jimmy, Dylan faced Lou, I faced Sarah, and there was an empty seat besides Sara so Carson wasn't facing anyone, with Vivian taking the other end of the table, facing her husband and sitting adjacent to Carson.

I was positive that this was by far the largest home gatherings I had ever been to, with the largest meal I was surely about to be apart of. And though the simple thought of that, coupled with the thought of everyone now slicing into and plating a lot of food I had helped cook, being here with a family this big felt... nice. It felt really nice. Especially for a Thanksgiving Meal.

I tried not to think about it, but I couldn't recall when I last had a thanksgiving with more than just myself. The few partners I have had, usually went home for the holidays, and frankly I always felt like I would be out of place there if I joined, so I just lied and told them I had to work it.

"You surely do make a good team then, don't you." Kenneth chimed in over a plethora of pass the this, and pass the that's. I was glad we had made so much food, because it seemed like everyone worked up an appetite tonight.
