Days flew by as the exam week loomed closer, and Y/N found herself deeply immersed in helping Hinata and Kageyama study. Each day after practice, they would gather in a quiet corner of the school to review their notes, go over practice questions, and attempt to drill the essentials into their heads.
"Okay, Hinata, let's go over this again," Y/N said, pointing to a section in his English workbook. "What does this sentence mean?"
Hinata furrowed his brow, staring at the sentence like it was written in a foreign language—which, technically, it was. "Umm... something about... dogs?"
Y/N sighed but remained patient. "Not quite. It's talking about a person's favorite hobby. Try again."
Meanwhile, Kageyama was beside them, struggling with modern literature. "This doesn't make any sense," he muttered, flipping through the pages of his textbook. "Why do we need to know this stuff?"
"Because it's on the exam," Y/N replied, not missing a beat as she kept her focus on Hinata's workbook. "And if you don't pass, you won't make it to the training camp on time."
Kageyama huffed but went back to his notes, clearly determined to understand the material.
Throughout all of this, Y/N's phone would occasionally buzz with a text from Kuroo, who seemed to enjoy checking in on how things were going. Their conversations were brief but frequent, Kuroo always offering some witty comment or a bit of encouragement that brought a small smile to Y/N's face.
Finally, the day of the exams arrived. Y/N entered the classroom, feeling a mix of nerves and confidence. She had done everything she could to help Hinata and Kageyama prepare. Now it was up to them.
The exam hall was silent, the only sound being the rustling of paper and the occasional scribbling of pens. Y/N was focused as she worked through her own exam, but she couldn't help glancing over at Hinata and Kageyama every now and then, hoping that everything they'd studied was paying off.
When the exams were finally over, there was a tense atmosphere as everyone waited for their results. The teachers wasted no time, handing out the marked exams as soon as they were done grading.
Back at the gym, the tension was palpable as the team gathered to hear how everyone had done. Nishinoya and Tanaka were the first to announce their results, both grinning proudly.
"Passed!" Nishinoya shouted, holding up his exam paper.
"Me too!" Tanaka added, though his grin was a little sheepish. "Barely, but a pass is a pass!"
However, the mood shifted when it came to Hinata and Kageyama. Kageyama held up his exam paper with a scowl. "I failed modern literature."
Hinata followed suit, looking just as disappointed. "I failed English..."
Y/N's expression remained composed, though there was a flicker of disappointment in her eyes. "It's okay," she said calmly, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. "You both worked really hard. We'll just have to do some last-minute revision before the makeup exams."
The two boys nodded, clearly dejected but still determined.
Tanaka, ever the optimist, clapped them both on the back. "Don't worry, you guys! As soon as you're done with that exam, someone will come to get you and take you straight to Tokyo. We won't let you miss the training camp!"
After that, Y/N stepped back and pulled out her phone, sending a quick text to Kuroo.
Y/N: Looks like I won't make it to the training camp on time. Hinata and Kageyama failed their exams, so I'm staying back to help them with the makeup test.
It wasn't long before her phone buzzed with Kuroo's reply.
Kuroo: That's too bad, but I'm sure they'll appreciate the help. I'll see you when you get here.
Y/N stared at the screen for a moment, her thoughts lingering on the upcoming camp and how it would feel to arrive late. But she pushed those thoughts aside, refocusing on the task at hand. Helping her teammates was more important, and she was determined to get Hinata and Kageyama to the training camp, no matter what it took.
