Hook was good until he lost his brother, then he broke down and went bad for a few hundred years. It was until he found love with Emma that he was able to break through his dark needs for vengeance.
Same with Rumple, He was good till he was about to lose his son and then he went dark. Light was only coming back when he found love with Belle.
Once again the same thing happened with Snow and charming. When Snow drunk the potion to forget that she lost him. She turned good to dark and only turned back to good when Charming showed her herself and love.
With Regina she was good till Daniel died, she went full blown evil and never came back till Henry and never used light magic till Robin.
In all four scenarios an act of love broke through the spell of darkness.
1. Realization that love was still there.
2. Losing love and knowing the only way to get it back was to relinquish control.
3. Sacrificing ones self to show that the emotional connection was still there no matter what darkness came.
4. Someone loving every part of you, the good and the evil, enough to bring out the light. It could be a child's love for his mother or love for a lover.
Somehow an act of love will break through Emma's new found darkness. Hook or Henry will show her the light again. It may not be true loves kiss but it will evolve an act of pure, untainted love.
