Ling's pov

We were in Orm's house, both of us hunched over her study desk, books and notes sprawled everywhere. The room was warm, bathed in the soft glow of a desk lamp, its light highlighting the determination in Orm's eyes as she flipped through pages.

"You're fine with everything else, so why not give this one a shot?" she asked, her tone both encouraging and exasperated, pointing to the subject that had been my nemesis for weeks.

"Urgh, no way," I groaned, pushing her notebook away with a dramatic sigh, as if even looking at it drained my energy.

She narrowed her eyes, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "Okay, how about this—let's make a deal."

"Hm?" I raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself.

"If you study and get a good grade on this, I'll give you anything you want," she offered, her voice teasing but with an edge of seriousness that piqued my interest.

"Anything?" I echoed, my tone shifting to a playful, almost daring lilt as I leaned in closer to her, a smirk curling at the corners of my mouth.

"Anything," she repeated, rolling her eyes but with a slight blush creeping up her cheeks.

I closed the gap between us, my breath mingling with hers as I whispered, "Anything?" Once more, my tone was half a challenge, half a promise, and I could see her resolve waver as I gently pulled her closer.

"Anything," she confirmed, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes fluttering shut as I leaned in and kissed her, soft and sweet at first, then deepening as the world around us seemed to fade away.

But our stolen moment was abruptly shattered when the bedroom door creaked open. We sprang apart like guilty kids caught in the act, our faces flushed with a mix of embarrassment and something else, something unspoken.

"Orm—hey, Ling," her father greeted us, his tone friendly but with that underlying parental authority that made my heart skip a beat.

"Hey, Dad," Orm replied, trying to sound casual even as her cheeks burned crimson. "What's up?"

"Just a reminder that you have your mother's event tomorrow," he said, his eyes flicking between us before he left, the door clicking shut behind him.

An event? She hadn't mentioned anything about that.

"Event?" I asked, my voice tinged with surprise and a hint of disappointment.

Orm sighed, looking apologetic. "Sorry for not telling you," she admitted, avoiding my gaze.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I pressed, a little hurt that she'd kept something from me.

"Relax," she said with a soft smile, trying to ease the tension. "It's just one of those events my mom puts on. Nothing big."

"Hm," I grumbled, still feeling a bit left out.

"Oh, come on, don't be cheeky," she teased, her fingers suddenly digging into my sides, tickling me until I broke into uncontrollable laughter.

"It—tic—kles!" I gasped between fits of giggles, trying to squirm away from her relentless attack.

"Then stop being cheeky!" she shot back, finally relenting.

As soon as she stopped, I pounced, trying to tickle her back, but to my surprise, she didn't even flinch. No laugh, no squirm—nothing.

"Not feeling it?" I asked, puzzled, watching her shake her head with an amused smile.

"I don't feel it," she said, her tone almost daring me to try harder.

"Okay, how about this?" I murmured, leaning in close and pressing soft kisses along her neck. That did the trick—she broke into laughter, the sound bright and joyous.

"Is that your secret weapon?" she asked between laughs as I finally pulled back, grinning triumphantly.

"You always laugh when I do that," I pointed out, feeling a surge of victory.

"Yeah, because it tickles," she admitted, still smiling.

"Haha, I win. You felt it," I declared, basking in my small victory.

"Want your prize?" she asked suddenly, her voice dropping to that teasing tone again, and before I could answer, she gave me a playful shove towards her bed.

"Yes!" I said, my excitement bubbling over, but just as I reached for her, she handed me her notebook instead.

"So study," she said with a smirk, crossing her arms as she watched my face fall.

"Mean," I muttered, but I couldn't help the smile tugging at my lips as I reluctantly opened the book.
