The next few weeks passed by in a blur of visits and recovery. The others and Rafe were with me every day, making sure I had everything I needed. It was comforting to see how well Rafe fit in with everyone, even with Ellie—the girl he still couldn't remember the name of and always had to ask me about. Despite that, they got along surprisingly well.
The biggest change, though, was between Rafe and Sarah. Their relationship had been strained for so long, but now, they actually seemed to appreciate each other. I caught them laughing together more than once, and it warmed my heart to see that brother-sister bond finally start to heal.
Kie was still a bit skeptical of Rafe, but as soon as she saw how close he'd gotten with the boys, especially JJ, her attitude began to shift. The most surprising duo had to be Rafe and JJ. They got along so well that it was almost like they'd known each other forever. They were practically inseparable, like brothers—or an old married couple who'd been together for eighty years. It was strange, but it worked.
Then, the day finally came when I was allowed to leave the hospital. I was beyond excited, but Rafe seemed even more thrilled. He'd been talking about how he'd "gotten everything ready," and when I asked him what he meant, he just smiled and said it was a surprise.
When we pulled up to a beautiful, big house, I realized what he meant. I stood there, speechless, as I took in the sight. It was even more perfect than anything I could've imagined. The house was stunning, with wide windows that let in plenty of light, and a welcoming front porch that felt like home.
Rafe handed me the keys, his smile soft as he watched my reaction. "Go ahead," he urged. "It's all yours."
I walked through the grand hall, every step feeling surreal. Everything was exactly as I'd dreamed—the rooms were spacious, filled with warmth and light. But when I stepped outside into the garden, that's when my heart truly dropped. It was breathtaking. The garden was filled with vibrant, blooming flowers, the kind that looked like they were straight out of a storybook.
I turned to Rafe, my eyes wide with emotion. "You did all of this?"
He nodded, his expression serious but tender. "I wanted to give you a fresh start, somewhere we could both move on from everything that's happened. I wanted you to have a place where you could be happy, where we could be happy."
I felt tears welling up in my eyes as I looked at him. He'd done all of this for me, for us. I never imagined someone could care so much, could go to such lengths to make me feel safe, loved, and at home.
"Rafe... it's perfect," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around me while being extra careful because of my injury. "I'm just glad you like it," he said softly, his breath warm against my ear. "I wanted to give you the life you deserve, Anna"
I turned to Rafe, still a little in shock. He smiled softly, and before I knew it, he was leaning in. Our lips met in a tender kiss that quickly deepened
