Ever since I can remember my world has always been quiet. Peaceful and calm, yet always burning. The anger that boiled in me overflowed to where I couldn't think. I was always a stubborn child, drove my mom and dad insane, but they loved me despite everything. Forks, Washington is a very small populated town where the only good thing here is the diner. That's where my Dad and I eat every night with Chief Swan. The foods great and so is the company of others, except when they yell at the TV because a player fumbled the ball. It was at times like those where I was thankful my world was silent. My mom, on the other hand, stayed at home slaying over her paperwork from the hospital. She's one of the best neonatal surgeons in the nation. She works alongside Dr.Cullen, who is very fun to communicate with when I go see my mom, he always has a story to tell.

A gentle kiss could be felt on my forehead as I woke up early. I smiled, opening my eyes and looking at my Dad as he pointed to the clock, "Thought I would get you up early for your first day before I give you something." he signed to me. I nodded and pushed him out of my room, seeing him laugh as I did. I was really excited about this morning because it was my last first day, but also my first-day stepping foot inside Forks High School. I had been homeschooled since elementary school because kids bullied me and I had finally convinced my parents to let me go for just one year. I stretched my arms and looked back at my comfortable bed sighing before I walked towards my closet. My nerves shocked through me as I thought of what to wear, it was at times like this when I wish I had someone to help me pick out my clothes. I had finally decided to wear a fluffy purple sweater and some black jeans. I just hoped it would be good enough to keep most of the attention away from me. I brushed my hair and did my makeup and walked downstairs to see Mom's jacket gone. I frowned a bit as I walked into the kitchen and knocked on the table to get my Dad's attention, "Where is mom?" I signed questioning him. Dad shook his head, "She had an emergency meeting honey, I'm sorry." he signed continuing to rub his fist in a circle on his chest apologizing over and over again. I sighed and shook my head, grabbed an apple and my keys off the counter and waved goodbye to my dad then hopped in my purple jeep, and headed off to Forks High.

When I got to school no one was there and I thanked God for that. I gathered my things, locked my car, and rushed inside to the main office so I could get my schedule and my blue slip for my teachers. I walked into the office and waved at the younger secretary with flaming strawberry blonde hair. "You must be Emerson, Hi I'm Rachel." she signed smiling. My face grew tighter as my smile widened, "Are you deaf?" I asked her Rachel nodded, " I have been since I was born." she signed back motioning me to come and sit at her desk. I felt a tightness in my chest slowly easy as I sat down. Rachel handed me my blue slip that let my teachers know that I was deaf, I sighed as I took it, placing it into my backpack. Rachel tapped my arm, "Don't worry it'll be fine. This school is great, just let me know if you need anything." she signed as I nodded. "Now your parents wanted me to talk to you about having an interpreter in each class with you?" she questions as I shook my head. "I'd rather not. They make me feel like a freak and I know I'm deaf and all but I just want to remain as invisible as possible." I signed. Rachel nodded, "That's going to be hard with your outstanding grades, but I see where you are coming from. I'll make sure your teachers know just to give you a copy of their lesson plan for the day so you can keep up, of course, you may get ahead." she signed as I saw her laugh. I smiled as I saw a light on the wall go off. Rachel smiled, "Start of the day. Here's your schedule." she signed as she handed it to me. All AP classes yay...note the sarcasm.

Wandering around the school to find my classes took some time as I got lost and kept from "asking" for directions from anyone. I rounded the corner down the B hallway looking at my schedule to see what room my AP Chem class was in and I ran into someone and fell on my ass, my papers sliding all over the floor. "Ouch, what the hell did I walk into a wall?" I questioned to myself. I kept my head down grabbing all my papers until my hands went to grab my folder that was no longer on the floor but in the hands of a blonde curly-headed boy. I looked into his eyes and noticed their strange color but shook it off as his mouth began to move. I tried to follow along but he spoke too fast and I couldn't keep up, with being deaf I became very good at lip-reading. He looked at me, waiting for an answer and when I didn't give him one he became even more perplexed until he noticed my blue pass on the floor next to his foot. I looked away, not wanting anyone's pity. I stood up and straightened my shirt out, grabbed my slip and ran off down the hall to find my class, his eyes still in my mind.
