The Broken One

Chapter 13

 Jasper's POV

     Her blood, it was a drug. I had to do this to save her life, but I didn't know if I'd be able to stop. I'm the newest to this diet and seeing as she's my mate and blood singer it makes it all worse. I continued to suck the venom out of her system, I tried to stop but a frenzy had begun. Hungrily I continued as Carlisle placed his hand on my shoulder, "Jasper stop. Her blood is clean, you're killing her." he said and that was enough. I ripped myself away from her, throwing myself against a wall breathing heavily as Rose reached to my side. "Jasper it's ok, she's ok. You saved her." she tried to console me but I shook my head, "I didn't save her, I almost killed her!" I yelled looking towards the fire where James's corpse burned. "If not for me she wouldn't be going through this! If not for me she would be at home with her family, happy!" I yelled as Rose slapped me. "If not for you she'd be dead by now and I'm not talking about this moment!" she yelled, "How long do you think she would have lasted in that godforsaken town with no one to talk to. No one understands her but her parents. No one will be there for her." she said, sighing. "You're her world Jasper, just like she is yours and if you don't see that you don't deserve her," she said walking away, picking up Emerson's limp body and running off. I shook my head and pulled at my hair screaming before landing my fist into the wall. My family and I followed Rose close behind, except for Bella and Cam who were on a flight back home. This was a moment in time I would never forgive myself for.

Emerson's POV

     I willed my eyes to open, I knew he needed me. I squinted at the bright light hanging above me as an oxygen tube rested under my nose. I reached for it confused as a hand stopped me, my surroundings coming into focus. My mom, with tears in her eyes, hugged me, "You're awake! You're okay my baby!" she signed as she held me. My eyes widened in alarm as I pushed my mom away, "Jasper where-" she turned my head to see Jasper "asleep.". My mom smiled, "He never leaves and your Dad is in the cafe grabbing us something to eat, sadly it's hospital food." she signed as I laughed lightly. I shook my head, "Mom, what happened?" I asked, knowing full well what really happened. Mom sat down in my bed, "Well honey you and Bella got into a bad car accident on the way here, good thing Jasper and Rose weren't too far behind you because you forgot your inhaler." she signed as I nodded. Mom kissed my forehead as she got up to leave for a moment, her phone flashing. I watched her go, the door shutting behind her as I felt Jasper's hand on mine. I pulled him into me, clinging to him for dear life. Tears dripped onto his shirt as he rubbed my back, holding me. After a long embrace, he pulled away gently, "I never thought I was going to see you again." I signed as I rubbed his arms, making sure he was real. Jasper looked down at my hands, "We took care of James, Victoria got away and Bella is fine." he signed shortly.

     Carefully I nodded as I waited for him to continue, "You're here because of me. The worst of it was thinking that I wouldn't be able to stop." he signed, continuing to look at my hands. I cupped his face gently, "But you did, I'm alive because of you." I signed as he leaned into my embrace. Jasper nodded, "Em, you should leave, graduate early and go to college." he signed. I shook my head as my heart thumped in my chest, "What? No! I want to be here, I want to be with you I-" he pulled me in and shook his head nodding. I cried into him as he held me close and I never wanted to leave.

     Tonight was prom, a lively and exciting time for anyone without a broken leg. I smiled as my mom finished putting up my hair as she smiled at me. "You look wonderful Emerson" she signed as tears waited to spill. I shook my head, smiled and hugged her, "Thank you momma" I signed as I pulled away. My mom nodded, wiping her tears, "Ok, Jasper is downstairs with your father so let us hurry." she signed as I giggled, nodding. Mom rushed down the stairs as I rounded the corner. My eyes met Jasper's, smiling as I walked down the stairs, my eyes never leaving his. Jasper's hand reached for mine as I placed mine in his. He twirled me around smiling as my Dad snapped a couple of pictures. I placed my head on his chest, closing my eyes in content, I was happy. Though the past couple weeks have been rough he's been by my side through all of it and I couldn't ask for more. We said goodbye to my parents as he walked me to his car. Cam and Bella waited in the back seat smiling at me as I got in. We pulled up to a small inn as I smiled, everyone getting out of the car. The rest of the family was waiting for us at the door. I smiled at Rose as we passed them and walked up to the venue. It was decorated like a Great Gatsby meets a casino vibe. Jasper took my hand and walked me outside and under a gazebo. I couldn't dance and he knew that.

     "You really are trying to kill me." I signed as I placed my hand in his, being spun around as I giggled. Jasper held me close as we swayed back and forth for a minute. Eventually, we sat down, Jasper holding my hand, us just being together. Jasper looked at me, "Emerson you mean the world to me, I'd give you anything you ever wanted. But I've put you in danger by just being around me, not even to mention James." he signed. I shook my head causing him to stop, "I would give up my own life to be with you, to save you. I would die or become one of you to remain as happy or even happier as I am now. Jasper, I love you and that will never change." I signed as I pulled him in for a kiss. The world stopped spinning and I was no longer broken, I was whole with Jasper by my side and for that I am grateful.
