Jasper's POV

It had been a few days, signs of improvement were beginning to show. Her color came back, her heart became stronger. Now was just the worst part, the waiting game. Slowly I saw Emerson begin to stir in her bed. I jumped out of my seat and rushed to her, "Emerson baby hey come on come to me." I whispered as Carlisle went to check on her but I growled again, "No." I said. Emerson's bright blue eyes looked into mine as she coughed. I handed her a glass of water and held it as she drank it. She smiled gently at me as she pulled me in to hug her. I smiled, nuzzling my head into her neck as I slowly licked her neck as she visibly relaxed. I chuckled seeing the mate bond had become stronger between us as I sat back down. "I missed you." I signed, "And if you ever scare me like that again I swear." I signed as she grabbed my hand and cupped her cheek with it, feeling my ice-cold skin against her flushed cheeks. She leaned into my hand as she held it in hers. Carlisle coughed, "Emerson I would like to take some blood and vitals if you don't mind?¨ he questioned lightly, looking at me for permission and I nodded. Emerson watched as the needle went into her arm and relaxed as I rubbed my thumb across her hand. I smiled at her as Carlisle took the vial of blood and placed it on the table, "I think for now you just need some good old fashioned rest until the tests come back." he signed as Em nodded and cuddled deeper into the blankets. I turned to look at Carlisle, "Do we even know what happened?" I asked him as he shook his head, "No as of right now all other tests have come back negative. My guess it was just a bad viral infection and attacked her immune system heavily." he said as he walked out of the room, going to run more tests. Eventually, Emerson had fallen asleep, her skin gaining some color back. I took a deep sigh of relief realizing I didn't have to do anything to save her, just the power of medicine. No reason for her to become a monster...yet. I heard a light knocking on the door as Alice, Rose, and Bella popped their heads in. "May we come in?" Alice asked sweetly, testing to see if the Major had gone back into his cage. I chuckled and nodded, "But quite she's asleep. Carlisle says she needs rest." I whispered as they walked in, just because she couldn't hear didn't mean we had to be disrespectful. Rose smiled, "She seems to be getting some color back." she said happily as I nodded in agreement. Bella rocked back and forth on the heels of her feet, "I'm just glad she's ok. She's the only one I can relate to currently so..." she said awkwardly as her sentence trailed off as we all just focused on Emerson.

Soon enough the whole family, including Emerson's parents, were patiently waiting for her to wake up. For the second time today, she began to stir lightly. I smiled as I moved a piece of hair from her face, enjoying the peaceful look she had on her face. She opened her eyes slowly and smiled as she saw her family around her. She let out a loud yawn causing all of us to giggle and laugh. Her mom approached her first, "Oh my baby." she signed as she pulled Emerson into her chest as tears dripped down onto her cheeks. Emerson rolled her eyes and I chuckled, "What?" her mom asked looking at her daughter than to me. I shook my head, "She just rolled her eyes is all." I said and signed as Emerson hit me, "You aren't supposed to tell." she signed as I laughed. Her mom shook her head, "I like this one, keep him." she signed and kissed her head as Emerson blushed and hid in my neck. I kissed her cheek and held her gently but I couldn't help but think about what she would be like without any sickness. Edward looked up at me and glared at me, I rolled my eyes ¨If you don't like my thoughts then stay out of my head.¨ I thought and he just got up and walked out. Emerson sighed as Alice smiled apologetically and went after Edward. I kissed her head yet again and held her till she fell asleep and for once I closed my eyes with her and felt like I was sleeping too.

Emerson's POV

Getting back into a normal routine was harder than expected. I wasn't allowed anywhere by myself. I sighed as I climbed into the passenger seat of Jasper's car, but smiled as heat filled my body once more. Jasper leaned over and kissed my head, "Good morning baby girl." he signed as he smiled at me. I smiled back, "She looks tired brother." Cam signed and Jasper shook his head looking at Bella who was asleep in the back seat. Cam just shrugged as Jasper chuckled. Moments like this are when I want to hear, I want to hear his laugh and his smooth southern voice. But I knew it wasn't humanly possible...like I said humanly. I sat and pondered about becoming a vampire, spending the rest of entirety with Jasper, but with no kids which I don't know if it's a downside or upside quite yet. The car came to a halt, as I got out my eyes connected with Edwards almost immediately. His eyes hardened as he read my thoughts, he growled slightly. Jasper stepped in front of me as Alice placed her hand on Edward's shoulder. Jasper led me to my first class and throughout the day. Bella had asked me to hang out and help her with some homework after school so of course, I said yes. Shivering, Bella and I headed for her truck, carefully we navigated the icy puddles. As we reached her truck she turned around and looked across the lot. My eyes followed hers as Jasper and Cam smiled and waved at us. I giggled and looked back at Bella. The vibration of Bella's hand hitting the truck caught my attention, my head turned to see a van, skidding on ice, careening out of control, heading directly towards us. Time slows, compressing to stillness, then exploding in a burst of speed.

I looked around as time continued slowly, faces of students in shock, Tyler panicking trying to get control of the van again, looking for Jasper but nowhere to be found, and finally back at Bella who had a look of horror on her face. The van was about to hit Bella and me when suddenly we were pinned to the ground by Jasper and Cam. The world around me froze, silence, a long beat void of any sound as I looked at Jasper, trying to absorb what had just happened. Jasper's eyes still filled with fear as he hurriedly looked me for any wounds. People began to call for help as people rushed over to help Tyler, who had a bleeding head wound. Jasper's eyes followed mine and darkened as his eyes set on the blood. I pulled his face back to mine. "Go." I mouthed. Jasper shook his head firmly as he picked me up gently and rushed me to his car, Cam following behind him with Bella.

Bella and I were currently waiting on Carlisle to come and check us over as the double doors burst open Charlie and my parents running in. All their faces white with terror. I assumed Charlie began yelling at Tyler because his face was no longer white but red with fury. My own parents signed at me, rushing with their hands. I couldn't understand what they were trying to say. I shook my head and grabbed their hands, placing them on my heart."I'm okay." I signed slowly. Dad nodded as he pulled me into a hug, while Mom's eyes wandered over to Jasper who seemed to be in a daze. My mom walked towards him and pulled him, slowly, into a hug. He was surprised at first but soon gave in to my mother's warm embrace. Carlisle soon walked in, checking on Bella first since she was the most shaken up from the accident. Jasper took my hand in his as he waited for his father. He looked at me and smiled as Carlisle came over. "I was hoping to not see you for a very long time Ms. Burk." he signed at me. I laughed and shook my head, "I'm fine Carlisle, thanks to Jasper anyway." I signed back. He nodded then did a routine check-up, then cleared me. Jasper had been talking to my parents for a while as I rounded the corner and they waved goodbye and headed out. I gave Jasper a questioning look as he walked towards me, "I convinced them to let you spend the rest of the day with me. After what happened I can't let you out of my sight right now. It's a mate thing." he signed as he smirked. I blushed and grabbed his hand following him to the car, which was warm might I add, and waited to arrive at my home away from home.
