The Broken One

Chapter 11

   Finding out their names were Laurent, James, and Victoria. You could tell James and Victoria were mates by the way she hung herself all over James. Laurent picked up the bat as the rest of the Cullens took the field, including Jasper. Carlisle took catcher as Jasper took first, Cam as umpire, Bella and I close to the jeep. I looked to see Jasper's eyes locked on James, he was gonna set him off. I looked to Edward quickly for help but he was paying attention to Alice, making sure she was okay. Alice pitched the ball, Laurent slammed it but Alice was up a tree in a flash and the ball slammed into Alice's hand. Laurent looked upset, but James smiled ever so slightly, seeing as he had worthy opponents. James was up next, Jasper tense, he power slammed it with an amazing force which had me gasping. James ran past first, past Jasper, past me. The wind ruffled my hair as James screeched to a halt. His head whipped around as he lurched into a crouch, his nostrils flaring as his eyes locked on mine excitement in his eyes. James said something as Jasper spring in front of me, baring his teeth and James bared back. The Cullens rushed to me behind James as Esme placed her arms around me, crouching. Cam rushed Bella into the Jeep, remaining unseen and unheard by the vampire clan. Carlisle and Laurent exchanged a few words as he backed down but James didn't. James's eyes didn't leave Jasper's as Laurent placed a hand on his shoulder and finally, he backed into the woods with his cohorts, disappearing.

     Alice rushed around grabbing the equipment, Carlisle said as few words to Jasper. My chest began to tighten as my breathing became labored. I couldn't hear, I didn't know what was going on and why everyone was panicking. Carlisle, Edward, and Rose raced after the three vampires as Jasper scooped me up in his arms, placing me in the seat and trying to buckle me but Bella shooed him off. I couldn't take it anymore so I screamed, this got everyone's attention, "What the fuck is happening?!?!" I question signing as tears pricked at my eyes. Jasper turned to me as Cam continued to drive, "James is a tracker. I could tell by his emotions from the moment he laid eyes on you. The hunt is his obsession, and my reaction set him off." he explained as he shook his head, "We're a large clan of strong fighters all protecting one vulnerable human." he signed. "What about Bella?" I questioned scared for my best friend. Jasper shook his head, "They didn't smell her but, I just made this his most exciting game ever." he signed. I felt pale as I realized what I had just brought onto the whole Cullen clan.

     Bella and I had been arguing for about 10 minutes now because she didn't want to leave my side and wanted to stay with me through this, "If something happens you need someone who can hear and communicate with you if the Cullens are gone." she added and I sighed in defeat. Jasper looked back at me once more, "The first place he'll go is your house. He'll track your scent there." he signed. My heart fastened, "What no!! My parents, they're in danger because of me! Jasper, we have to go, we have to elude him somewhere else. Please, they'll die, Jasper, please." I signed as sobs racked my body. Jasper nodded, placing a hand on my cheek, pushing calmness through me, "Here's the story, you're going on a road trip with Bella to Salt Lake City. You'll be back before school starts on Monday." he signed and I nodded. I whipped my face of tears as Bella and I tried to walk calmly into my house, "Bella you tell them I'll go pack." I signed. Bella nodded as we walked inside and I rushed right upstairs to my room shutting the door. Jasper was waiting for me, helping me pack, I guess a knock came from my door because Jasper was gone. I gathered the strength to pretend I may not die, that I may not see my parents ever again and opened the door. My father pulled me in for a hug as he grabbed my bag from around my shoulder, "You be careful okay? Come back safe princess." he signed as I nodded and kissed his cheek walking downstairs. Mom kissed my head as I grabbed my bag from my father and walked out the door with Bella and into her truck, seeing as if Jasper and Cam had stayed the story wouldn't have been believable.

     Fresh tears sprung to my eyes as Bella started up the truck and drove off. Suddenly Jasper is outside the car, near my window. He opened up the door and pulled me into him as I cried. Jasper kissed my head and rubbed my back, trying to calm me but nothing helped, I felt as if I would die and maybe I would. Suddenly a shake came from Bella's truck as I screamed, Jasper signed Emmett into my hand as he tried to calm me once more as I tried to catch my breath. Slowly darkness consumed me as I fell asleep, away from the pain. Jasper woke me up minutes late as they rushed me from Bella's truck to the house but froze when the doors opened and Laurent exited. They immediately took defensive positions around Bella and I but Carlisle appeared. "He came to warn us about James." he signed. Laurent looked confused then finally made the connection, that I was deaf. Jasper, Emmett, and Cam backed down slightly as Laurent addressed Carlisle, Jasper translating for me. "He's grown tired of his games. But James has unparalleled sense. Absolutely lethal. He's never seen anything like him in three hundred years...and the woman, Victoria, will back him. Don't underestimate her. I'm truly sorry for what's been unleashed here." Jasper signed as I nodded, taking a deep breath. If James wanted a battle fine but now he's getting a war.
