School continued on as normal and currently, Bella and I were at her house studying for the bio. The exam we had coming up. Bella laced her fingers in her hair as she landed back onto her bed as I laughed. She shot up and glared at me, "You aren't allowed to laugh at my struggle Ms. Smartypants." she signed. I covered my mouth but that didn't stop my giggles from escaping and eventually, we were both laughing. Chief Swan soon opened the door and waved at me before talking to Bella. Bella looked at me with a perplexed look on her face, "Hey have you met my friend, Jacob?" she questioned. I shook my head and followed her as we walked down the stairs. Jacob's eyes lit up as his eyes landed on Bella. She walked over and gave him a hug as I stood in the doorway. My eyes wandered to the girl that was standing in the doorway. Bella waved me over, "Jake this is Emerson, Emerson Jake." she signed. I waved as he smiled, "Nice to meet you. This is my sister Rachel." he signed as she waved at me. "Wow, lots of waving," I thought to myself. Jacob and Bella continued to talk so I decided to walk over to Rachel. "They seem to get along great." Rachel signed to me. I smiled and shook my head, "Yeah he seems to have taken a strong liking to her." I signed back.

Rachel and I talked for a bit and I found out she was deaf and mute. I squealed slightly and Bella and Jacob looked at me and I blushed in embarrassment. "So do you guys want to head down to La Push with us?" Jake signed. I looked at Bella, the boys had told us not to go to La Push because it was "dangerous". Bella shrugged, "What they don't know won't hurt them." she signed to me. "Says the one protected from the vampire that can read minds," I thought. Bella and I grabbed our coats and headed out into her truck, following Jacob and Rachel. We pulled up to a small beach and got out waiting for Jacob to join us. Rachel rolled her eyes as she rounded from behind the truck, "He's so worried about his hair." she signed. We laughed, "Well boys will be boys." I signed back. Rachel motioned for me to follow her as we walked away from Jacob and Bella who were walking towards the beach. Rachel and I walked into the woods, following a path. "I wanna show you my favorite place to go when I feel like the world is too loud." she signed as I smiled gently. We walked through a thick bush and it opened up to a full of just plush green moss. Rachel sat down on a log, "Even though I'm deaf the world sometimes becomes too much because people don't understand. Sometimes hearing nothing becomes too loud and too much for the brain to process." she signed as I sat down next to her and nodded at her in agreement.

The sun began to set as Rachel and I made our walk back to the truck. "We should hang out more." I signed and Rachel nodded but she froze. "What." I signed, stepping towards her. She shook her head, "Don't move. Don't make a sound. Look." she signed as she pointed to the herd of deer grazing just to the left of us. "The world makes wonderful things." I signed but soon ran off. When we made it back to the car Bella and Jacob were just now getting back as well. Bella and I said goodbye as we got back into the car, my phone began to flash. I looked at Bella as I handed her the phone. It was Jasper and Jasper only EVER calls me if he's panicking. Bella answers the phone and takes it away from her ear multiple times. After about two minutes the call ended as she rubbed her ear, "I may be deaf now too jeez." she signed. I laughed as we continued to drive. Right as we pulled up to Bella's house both Cam and Jasper were there. I hadn't even stepped out of the car and Jasper was already to me, checking to see if I was injured in any way. His eyes were wide with fear, worry, and anger. "Jasper she's fine." Bella signed when Cam checked her over. Jasper glared at her, "What part of don't go to La Push do you two not understand!" he signed, his face becoming hard. I rolled my eyes, "La Push isn't dangerous. Plus there is a girl here named Rachel. She's deaf like me. She understands in some ways no one else can." I signed as I shoved him back, tears jolting into my eyes. "So excuse me if I want a friend who knows what I go through on a day to day basis." I signed as hot tears ran down my face.

Jasper stepped towards me but I ran in the other direction. I ran until my feet ached. I sat down on a log, next to a small stream. I cried until my chest began to throb and my head pounded. I knew Jasper could find me easily, I was just glad he decided to give me space. I sighed as I wiped my eyes with my sleeve. Looking around I saw some bushes shake and immediately became startled. That is until a little tumbled out of them. I giggled as it got up and shook the dirt off itself. I clicked my tongue and got the puppy's attention, it turned around and began to shake. I shook my head and held out my hand, not moving it showing it I wasn't going to hurt it in any way. It took a while but it slowly came towards me and sniffed my hand. I smiled but didn't make any sudden moves. As time went on the puppy came to trust me and play with me. It was a boy but I didn't know what I wanted to name it. It was almost dark so I decided to head back to the house so Jasper wouldn't be out looking for me. I scooped up the puppy and headed on my way. Jasper met me right at the door and was confused about the sleeping puppy laying in my arms. I looked to Edward for help, seeing as my hands were full. "She found him in the woods. He was scared at first but came around. She thinks he was abused and then left in the woods to either die or fend for himself." he signed as Jasper nodded and smiled. "I'm sorry about earlier. I just-there are still things you don't know about our world but I can't tell you about them, it's someone else's story to tell." he signed as I nodded in a form of understanding.

Soon I head home after stopping a the pet store with Jasper. I took a breathe as I opened the door and my parents were setting the table. They both waved but when I didn't come fully in the came over. "Please don't be mad." I signed as they looked confused. Jasper pushed the door open the rest of the way and Kida burst his way through the door but came right back as he saw my parents. I signed, "He was in the woods all alone and I couldn't just leave him there." I signed as my Dad laughed and went back to setting the table and Mom awed. "So, can I keep him?" I questioned as he settled down between my feet. Mom nodded as she hugged Jasper, asking if he would be joining us for dinner tonight but said he couldn't because his family was having dinner as well. I kissed him goodbye after we brought all of Kida's stuff into my room, "Leave your window open, I'll see you tonight." he signed and then he left. I smiled as I walked down the stairs, Kida asleep in his bed next to the table. Mom had made my favorite, chicken and rice soup, perfect for a rainy night. After eating with my parents I hopped into the shower, which Kida tried to jump into and attack the water. I changed into my pj's and wrapped Kida into a blanket kissing his nose as I walked into my room. I jumped slightly as I saw Jasper laying on my bed, "Scare ya?" he questioned. I shut my door and glared at him as Kida jumped out of my arms and onto the bed, he began playfully biting Jasper. "Good boy." I signed as Jasper held Kida out at arm's length and glare at me setting him at the foot of my bed, where he curled up and fell asleep. I sighed and slipped into bed with Jasper, his body cool to the touch but also so comforting. All these things about a vampire that would normally startle people did the opposite to me. Jasper rubbed my back as I dozed into a dreamless sleep.
