The Broken One

Chapter 12

      We rushed into the garage, everyone springs into action, opening cupboards for supplies, cell phones, extra batteries, maps, everything they may need. I stood back and watched as they loaded the vehicles, Bella beside me. Jasper, Edward, and Emmett were all talking, most likely on how to kill James. He's dead but has great skills, if only it didn't have to be this way. "I'll run Em south, while you lead the tracker away." Jasper signed as I shook my head walking over to him, "No that's what he would expect. I'll go with Alice and Edward. A future teller and a mind reader, I'll be safe." I replied as I kissed his cheek. Jasper nodded and walked towards the Suv, but turned around at the last second and smashed his lips on mine. I drank in every moment I had with him, not knowing if it would be the last. We pulled away slowly, "I love you." I signed as I placed my hand on his heart, "As do I." he replied doing the same. I pulled away and got into the car with Edward, Alice, and Bella. I took one last look at Jasper before Edward pulled out of the driveway.

     The sun began to rise on the empty road, Edward driving, Alice in the passenger seat and Bella next to me. I sighed as my head pounded from crying all night, I was thankful they left me alone. As I wondered how Jasper, Rose, and Cam were doing on getting James off our path. We pulled into a hotel just out of Salt Lake, this is where I was born but moved to Forks before I could remember. I took in the sun and the heat as we headed inside to check-in. My phone flashed, "Hey honey it's dad just to let you know, Mom's headed to Salt Lake for a conference if you would like to meet up with her. Love you." my dad texted. I replied with an "Ok" and headed inside with Bella. We walked into the room and I went straight into the bedroom, falling into a place that was reality. When I woke up later the blinds were pulled and Edward and Alice stared blankly at the T.V. set, Several plates of food crowded the table, assuming they were for Bella and I got up and walked into the room checking my phone on the way. Alice looked up at me, "You should eat." she signed and I shook my head, "I wish he'd text me." I replied. I sat down next to Alice sighing, "They could get hurt. I've put you all in danger because of-" "Because of your love for Jasper." Edward signed, interrupting me. "You are his world now and he is yours. We protect our family Emerson and you and Bella are a part of that now. No matter what we will always be here for you I promise." he signed as I nodded.

     Suddenly, Alice reels back, Edward rushing to her side Bella following. The three talked as Alice began to draw something. I recognized it from pictures, "That's the hospital I was born at, my mom used to work there. She told me they shut it down because there weren't enough people to run it." I signed to Bella who nodded and repeated it to Alice and Edward. Alice shook her head, "We have to go now." she said as I looked at Edward, "What's happening?" I asked. Edward shook his head, "James, he changed his course he's headed here so we have to get you out of here." he replied rushing around the room packing things. My thoughts began to reel at a fast speed as my head hurt. My mom. My eyes widened as I realized my mom was here in Salt Lake for a hospital a town down from where I was born. He's going after my mom. I ran over to Bella quickly signing to her what I thought and she nodded in agreement. My phone flashing caught my attention as I looked at my texts, it was Jasper. "I'm coming to get you. We lost the tracker. The woman is still in the area, Rose and Esme are protecting your house" he texted. "This is my fault." I replied, "In a couple of hours I will be there. Then you and I will go somewhere. Together. The others will keep hunting. Em, I swear to you I'll do whatever it takes to make you safe again." and that was the last I heard from him.

     Alice and Edward were checking us out as Bella and I waited by the door. I had received a call from James, Bella answered and told me what to say. I was scared and I tried to keep a song in my head to keep Edward from reading my mind. Bella nodded to me as we walked through the lobby, re-scanning for Edward and Alice. We spotted them outside under the pavilion, loading the Mercedes, deep in a heated discussion. We slipped out the opposite door and rushed towards a taxi and jumped in as Bella told the driver the address. We pulled up to the hospital as I ran inside pepper spray in hand, not caring if Bella was behind me or not. I looked down each hallway, a door moved out of the corner of my eye and I chased after it down the hallway. A shadow danced off the wall of a room as I ran in to find a manikin tied up. I shook my head as I turned around but there stood James, smirking. His lips moved as panic spread through my body as he kept talking. I backed up and into a wall as he came closer his hand grabbed my chin making me look at him. He looked confused, probably as to why I wasn't responding to him, but then a lightbulb went off. "Oh aren't you just the Cullens pet." he signed as I was forced to look at him.

     He'd found out I was deaf, I grabbed my pepper spray and sprayed him in the eyes as I ran for the door, he landed right in front of me and flung me into a medicine cabinet glass shattering on impact. James landed in front of me as he grabbed my leg, "Excellent escape attempt, sad to say you're too slow." he signed as he snapped my leg a scream emitting from my mouth. I whimpered as he forced me to look at him, "This will just break Jasper's, poor little heart. You'll be dead and mangled by the time he gets here." he sighed as Bella ran into the room. James' head whipped around as he smirked and said something standing. I screamed at him, his attention back on me, "No take me, please! Let her go please." I pleaded, tears streaming down my face, my hands sore from how hard they were hitting each other.. James laughed and threw me towards Bella, "Run." he signed as Bella pulled my arm around her shoulders. I shook my head and shoved her in the direction of the exit as I limped the other way. I stumbled into the cafe as I grabbed onto some chairs, holding myself up. I knew it was pointless to run and that James loved a chase but I had to give Bella time to get out.

     I whimpered as I collapsed on the ground, pain shooting through my leg as I walked. I gasped for air, my lungs burning as I pushed myself further, crawling towards nothing. Suddenly I was yanked back as I came face to face with a monster. I shut my eyes in fear as I was thrown against a window, feeling the glass cut and enter my skin. I opened my eyes, looking at my side, seeing the glass as I yanked it out throwing it to the floor. James shot over to me, inhaling the scent of my blood as he looked at me with a smirk before sinking his teeth into my side. Agony swept through my body like wildfire as the venom spread. The feeling of James's teeth being ripped out of me caused me to look up. There stood Jasper, holding James up against a column as they talked. James turned around, smashing Jasper's face into the floor until it cracked. I screamed out, both in pain and fear he would kill Jasper. Jasper lashed around throwing James into the kitchen as he ran, scooping me up and leaped towards the shattered window. Only to be pulled down by James, sending me rolling against the stone-cold floor. My body shook, tears streamed down my face. This was my end, this was my death. James walked towards me again, biting the same spot as before as I screamed and tried to shove him off.

     Jasper's eyes darkened as he charged at James, pinning him against a wall and sinking his teeth into his neck, ripping apart of him. Carlisle, Emmett, and Rose busted through the doors. Carlisle and Emmett ran to Jasper as Rose ran to me. My eyes tried to focus on Jasper but my vision blurred as a fire was started and James was ripped to pieces. Rose applied pressure to my side but that didn't stop the burning sensation from coursing through me as she yelled for someone. Carlisle rushed to me, Jasper by the side as they talked and next thing I knew Jasper had his teeth in my side, sucking the venom out of me before my world went black.
