Secrets
by;michimichiroChapter 11
I sat in the garden, enjoying my morning coffee. The air was cool, and birds chirped softly in the trees. It was peaceful. I closed my eyes, feeling the warm sun on my face.
Suddenly, I heard heavy footsteps. My eyes snapped open. It was Dad stumbling towards me. His face looked serious, and I felt worried.
"Sarah," he said, his voice rough. "Do you know what this is?"
I looked up at him, curious. "What do you mean, Dad?"
He frowned, his eyes dark. "Stop looking into other people's pasts. You might find things you don't want to know."
I felt confused. What was he talking about? "I don't understand, Dad. What things?"
He sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Just be happy with what you have. You are the heiress of your grandmother's company. That's enough. Don't mess with other people's business."
Before I could ask more, he turned and walked away. I watched him go, feeling even more confused. Why was he acting so strange now?
As I sat there, thinking about Dad's words, I realised something. They must be connected to Eli. I had been looking into her past lately. But why would that upset Dad?
I knew I needed answers. And I knew just who to ask. Margot. She always seemed to know what was going on.
I finished my coffee quickly and went inside to get ready. My mind was racing as I got dressed and grabbed my car keys. What did Dad know? What was he trying to hide?
The drive to the hospital, where Margot worked, felt long. I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel, impatient at every red light. Finally, I pulled into the parking lot and hurried inside.
I knew the way to Margot's office well. But when I got there, I was surprised. Mrs. Loire was there instead. She looked up when I came in, her eyes wide.
"Sarah?" she said. "What are you doing here?"
I tried to smile, but I felt nervous. "Hi, Mrs. Loire. Is Margot around? I need to talk to her."
Mrs. Loire nodded. "She's just stepped out for a moment. She should be back soon. Would you like to wait?"
"Yes, please," I said, sitting down in one of the chairs.
We sat in awkward silence for a few minutes. I tried not to fidget, but I couldn't help it. My leg bounced up and down as I waited.
Finally, the door opened, and Margot walked in. She looked surprised to see me.
"Sarah? Is everything okay?" she asked, her voice concerned.
I stood up quickly. "Can we talk? privately?"
Margot nodded, looking at Mrs. Loire. "Would you mind giving us a few minutes?"
Mrs. Loire smiled and left the room. As soon as the door closed behind her, I turned to Margot.
"Something weird happened with Dad this morning," I said. "He warned me about looking into people's pasts. I think it has something to do with Eli."
Margot's face turned serious. She sat down behind her desk and motioned for me to sit too.
"Are you sure about this, Sarah?" she asked. "This is serious."
I nodded. "I'm sure. Please, Margot. I need to know what's going on."
Margot took a deep breath. She looked at me for a long moment, like she was deciding something. Then she spoke.
"Okay, Sarah. I'll tell you what I know. But you have to promise me you'll be careful with this information."
