CROW (ITACHI X READER)

Chapter Eighteen:

Itachi

"She's heading with Obito to the room." Damon spoke from the drivers seat and I gave a noncommittal grunt in response. "Back to the office?" He glanced in the rear view mirror and I looked down at Zu, sleeping with his head on my lap.

"Home, Damon." I murmured and from the corner of my eyes, I saw his small smile.

He had been doing that more lately, gone with the angry, remorseful expression and instead held a small fucking smile. God, fucking gag.

Ever since y/n recovered, him and Max's spirits have been at an all time high. At first, I thought it was because my mood had also lifted but I was wrong.

They looked at her like a sister, respected and protected her like one too. I never realized how much they needed a good woman around but I should have, it was something all of us needed.

I don't know what moved me to go home instead of the office, I knew she would be coming back home and I wanted to give her the distance to get settled.

I could still do it from the house but being under the same roof filled me with equal parts excitement and dread; but i'd be damned if I was leaving them alone in that house again.

With Helen still in the wind as well as her father and brother, I didn't trust anyone to protect them but me. I leaned my head back with a sigh and ran my fingers through Zu's hair.

He had been glued to my side since that fateful day and in turn, I was too. I even had Max stationed outside his classroom during the day, no one would admit it but both Max and Zu breathed easier because of that.

After dinner and bath time, I realized with a smile that my angel was handling her transition better than I hoped. I wanted to rage out on Obito when he asked to take her directly to the room after her release.

Not because I didn't think she could handle it but because I wanted her to have one normalish day before stepping through that door.

"Daddy, is mama coming home?" Zu asked sleepily from under his covers and I smiled at him.

"Of course she is. You'll see her tomorrow morning." I murmured softly and he smiled before his eyes drooped closed.

I don't know how long I stayed next to his side watching him sleep. It had been like that since he came home, i'd sit for hours watching his little chest rise and fall. I'd watch the gentle thump of his pulse in his neck and his eyes moving under his lids; indicating a dream filled sleep.

I'd stay until my mind caught up to the fact that he was here, he was home and he was safe. Only then did I move away and go to my room.

He's okay. He's here. He's loved. He's safe.

I repeated those four small sentences over and over again until my body could move without revolting. I sighed heavily when I got to my bathroom, a hot shower would cure the heaviness in my bones- even if it was temporary.

I lifted my head back and let the water force my eyes shut. If I kept them closed long enough, I could trick my mind into believing she was in here with me. The heat of the steam would become the heat of her body and her voice would filtered between the sounds of water hitting tile.
