Chapter XVI: Bliss

"Rebound"

Xon's body moves by itself, as if moving off of muscle memory alone. He tenses his muscles intensely and then infuses his aura into them. He bursts upwards with strength, launching Xenon upwards. Xon stands paused briefly, the technique's name was literal. The rebound caused his muscles to lock up for a brief period of time.

Xenon: "So you had a last resort."

Xon's muscles ease and he picks up a nearby pole-arm off the ground nearby. He rushes towards Xenon, whose arm is raised in guard, and stops right before him. He twirls clockwise, building momentum for an underhanded uppercut slash.

"Rebound"

Xon tenses his muscles and aura once more, hurling his spear with all his might, but right as the spear approaches Xenons raised arm, his body resets, to the beginning of his strike, as if returning backwards in time, he twirls the spear once more, and resets once more. maintaining and building more momentum with every swing. Xenon seems to be stuck in time as Xon attacks, until eventually, after the 100th rebound, the resets stop and Xon unleashes the full force of the attack. Xon's strike, multiplied a hundredfold, completely severs Xenon's arm and leaves a massive slash wound upon his chest.

Xenon, surprised, leaps backwards. As his severed arm lands beside him. Xon falls to his knees as his body rebounds. His muscles not only lock, but begin destroying themselves as a result of the powerful rebound. Blood runs down his nose, signifying brain damage. Xenon walks over and picks up Xon. They both exit the rulers layer the way they came, and re-enter, healing them both of their injuries, but Xon remains unconscious. He wakes up minutes later, confused.

Xon: "What happened, why do i feel normal again?"

Xenon: "That technique you used, it's too strong for your body to handle, it damn near killed you."

Xon: "..."

Xenon sits down beside Xon.

Xenon: "Listen, I know that living so much of your life without your parents has been tough, but look at you now, you're big and strong, just like your dad! Whether you like it or not, we are family."

Xon: "My mother.."

Xenon: "Avery.. her name was Avery. Your mother was greater than all of us, she was beautiful, kind, gentle, and a loving soul."

Xon: "Then why.."

Xenon: "She was truly one of a kind, your red hair came from her. But despite being such a good natured person, there were still happenings of ill intent aimed towards her."

Xenon: "Unlike me.. unlike anybody, your mother was born with her resonance, and it was one like no other. She was born with the ability to create. Literally anything. She would walk around our town, handing out flowers to everyone, she wasn't allowed to make herself money though."

Xenon lets out a hearty chuckle.

Xenon: "I loved her so much, and we loved you, but after your birth, everything went wrong. We were attacked, and with your mother being against the thought of fighting, we didn't stand much of a chance against our enemies. The angels."

Xon: "Angels? They exist? Why were angels attacking you, aren't they supposed to be good?"

Xenon: "I don't know, they took your mother, but i resisted too much, they had no option but to kill me. I haven't seen your mother here so she's either still alive or-"

Xon: "They destroyed her soul."

Xenon: "Yeah."

Xenon stares forwards.
