~Jennifer's POV
"Gregory?" I asked him.
"Jennifer?" He asked me.
"Come in." I told him, opening the door to the fullest. He went in and put the pizza on the coffee table.
"Come here, sit." I told him, gesturing him to sit on the couch with me.
"Thanks." He told me.
"So, how are things?" I asked him.
"So far, it's all good. I mean, nothing's better but..."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. It's been five years anyway."
"How's your family?"
"Mom still can't get over it, she's been depressed ever since, Jen, and it's like I just want to reach out to her, but she's broken, Jen. Dad's been doing well, he's been working a lot so he could get things out of his mind. He's been the strongest in our family ever since. Unfortunately, he got fired a month ago, and until now, he's still looking for a new, stable job."
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Thank you, Jen, but unfortunately, there's nothing anyone can do to help. We are the only ones who could help ourselves right now."
Josh made a noise in the kitchen.
"Is there someone here with you?"
"Yeah."
"Who is it?"
I let out a sigh. "It's Josh."
"Oh." He told me.
"No, we're not back together, he still can't remember yet."
"Oh. I just thought...anyway, how are you two? Why are you guys in the same house?"
"Things got a little messy last night, and I accidentally told him while I was drunk that I wanted to go to Kentucky, then when I woke up, I was visited with a painful headache and I was on a plane on the way here."
"Wow. Now that's crazy."
"I know." I said with a smile, but then I looked at him with a straight face. "But things have been crazier with you ever since she died, right?"
He gave me a sad nod. "Yeah. Whenever I would miss her, I would just play the CDs that has all the songs she sang and composed just to hear her voice. I just, you know, sometimes I still believe that she will be back from music school during the summer and the holidays and we'll be hanging out together. And then those days come, and you realize that, oh, she's dead, and there's nothing I could do about that. I'm no mad scientist to bring her back to life. I still don't believe that she was the one who died in the accident. It should have been the guy who hit them, but instead of that he's just passing time in jail, waiting for him to come back here and kill more people."
"Gregory, you shouldn't say things like that."
"You're my sister's friend. Why would you say that?!" He said.
"I am her friend, and I know how you feel. I know how it feels like to have someone important out of your life. But, you know no one can change anything that happened, so why do we still try to change it?"
"Wow. Where did you get all that?"
"Jen, did you pay for the--" I looked up. Josh was standing there. Gregory seemed to notice him, with the hope that he would remember him, then I realized that this situation was awkward, so I introduced Josh to Gregory instead.
