The air in the small apartment was thick with tension as Jungkook and Yoongi stood facing each other, the memories of their past swirling around them like ghosts. An awkward silence stretched between them, each second heavy with unspoken words. Jungkook felt his heart race, his palms sweaty as he searched for the right thing to say.
"Yoongi, I—" he began, but the words stuck in his throat. The weight of their shared history loomed over them, and he felt like he was standing on the precipice of something monumental.
Finally, taking a deep breath, Jungkook looked into Yoongi's eyes, searching for the courage he needed. "I've missed you so much. I've spent weeks thinking about everything that happened. I know it's been years, but I can't pretend that I don't still love you... that I'm not still in love with you..."
As the confession left his lips, he watched as Yoongi's expression shifted. Tears welled in his eyes, and Jungkook's heart sank at the sight. "Yoongi..."
"I've felt so much guilt," Yoongi choked out, his voice trembling. "After everything that happened... I didn't want to end our friendship... but I loved you too much to let anything happen to you."
"What do you mean?" Jungkook asked, confusion flooding his mind.
Yoongi wiped at his tears with the back of his hand, taking a shaky breath. "Mr. Ji... he threatened your safety if I didn't cut ties with you. I thought I could protect you by distancing myself. I didn't want you to get hurt because of me."
Jungkook felt a rush of emotions—anger, sadness, but mostly relief. "You did that for me? You thought it would be better to lose me than to risk my safety?"
Yoongi nodded, his lips trembling. "I never meant what I said that day. I've always loved you, Jungkook. I was just scared. Scared of losing you, scared of what could happen. I thought it was the only way."
Jungkook's heart ached at the weight of Yoongi's confession. "So... what about Taehyung?" he asked hesitantly, unsure how to navigate this new territory.
"We dated a bit," Yoongi replied softly, "but we decided we were better as friends. It was never the same as what we had."
Jungkook felt a flicker of hope ignite within him. "So..."
"Yes," Yoongi whispered, his voice barely above a breath.
"Can I?" Jungkook's heart raced, his hands trembling as he reached out, needing to touch Yoongi.
Yoongi let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. "Yes... please," he pleaded, his eyes searching Jungkook's with an intensity that made Jungkook's pulse quicken.
With a newfound resolve, Jungkook stepped closer, cupping Yoongi's face in his hands. He looked deeply into his eyes, searching for any hint of hesitation, but found only longing. "Fuck... I am so in love with you..." he murmured, feeling all their shared moments flash before his mind like a beautiful, bittersweet movie. Memories of laughter, late-night talks, and the warmth of their friendship rushed back, culminating in the memory of their first kiss—the moment that changed everything.
And then, unable to hold back any longer, Jungkook leaned in and pressed his lips against Yoongi's, kissing him passionately, more fervently than he ever had before. The kiss was electric, igniting a fire that had been smoldering beneath the surface for far too long. Jungkook poured all of his love and longing into that kiss, and he felt Yoongi respond in kind, melting against him as their mouths moved together in perfect harmony.
Tears streamed down Yoongi's cheeks, but this time they were tears of joy, mingling with the warmth of Jungkook's touch. They pulled away slightly, foreheads resting against each other, breathless.
