I sat in Hannah's living room as she, Conrad, his friend and another girl talked and passed around a joint.
I usually didn't smoke. But tonight was an exception.
As the joint was passed around it found its way from Hannah's hand to mine. I took a hit, coughing as the pungent smoke left my mouth.
"Truth or dare?" Conrad asked looking at Victoria.
"Dare." She said confidently.
He took another hit and nodded, a wide smirk spreading across his plain features.
Matteo was so attractive compared to him.
"Take a shot of the whiskey I brought." He said, taking a of dark bottle of liquid out from behind him and handing it to her.
"Oh cmon! That's a pussy move!" She laughed out quickly taking a chug straight from the bottle.
I shook my head and took another hit of the joint that was being continually passed around.
"Truth or dare, Hannah?" Victoria asked me batting her eyelashes and smiling like a maniac.
"Hmm. I'll play it safe. Truth." I responded deciding that if I said dare I might end up kissing Atticus, and that was not something I was going to do. My lips belonged to Matteo. Thank you very much.
"Have you ever kissed anyone?" She asked, and she was already certain of my answer.
"Yes." I said and sighed, hugging my knees to my chest.
"What? Girl!" She yelled as she leaned over and got in my face. "Who?" She nearly shouted and I tried to suppress a grin.
"Matteo." I whispered only loud enough for her to hear and I swear my body was on fire from the thought of him.
She slapped her hand over her mouth and screeched, eyes widened as her mouth hung agape. "No. Way." She sounded confounded, and honestly it was extremely entertaining.
"Yes way." I laughed out.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She grilled, acting extreamly hurt and offended.
"Because it just happened. And anyway, it's not a big deal." I responded and sighed as I noticed the other three in the circle were staring at us blankly.
"Oh whatever!" She shouted and sat back down sighing. She was acting like a little girl, but I'm not surprised as this was usually how she acted when she'd had anything to drink.
I facepalmed and sighed. "Truth or dare Atticus?" I asked directing my question towards the light eyed red head in the circle who sat there like a lost kitten.
"Oh, uh. Truth?" He responded sounding awfully unsure of his answer.
"Hmm. Have you ever been to a concert?" I questioned. I know, such a boring question. But hey, I certainly wasn't going to ask about his sex life. That's fucking grody.
"No. Although, I once went to watch a showing of Micheal Jackson on live TV!" He said smiling wildly. Oh gosh.
"Awesome.." I replied, as an awfully blank look occupied my face.
Everyone's eyes were red, and we had smoked a little too much. Regardless the joint kept finding its way around the circle, and once again into my hands.
After I took another hit I passed it off to Atticus and looked at him as we all waited for his question.
"Uh. Truth or dare Mary?" He asked the girl to his left who was sitting there sipping a glass of wine.
"Ooo. Dare!" She yelled out, clearly very drunk and stoned. Not a great combination if you ask me.
"Kiss Hannah." He responded, a devious smirk across his pale face.
Victoria giggled and Conrad raised a curious eyebrow.
Oh boys are so gross.
"Okay!" She said and crawled across the circle to me. "It's not homosexual because I have a boyfriend and we're drunk!" She said and pecked my lips before I even had a moment to think about declining.
"Fuck yeah!" Conrad shouted out, to which he was slapped on the arm by a very angry Victoria.
Shame those weren't Matteo's lips.
She smiled and went back to her spot in the small circle.
That was by far the strangest thing I've ever done.
After another couple rounds I took my leave. Victoria saw me out and stopped me just outside the door.
"Hannah. I seriously can't believe you didn't tell me about kissing your farm hand." She told me, and I could see tears welling up in her red eyes.
"I'm super sorry. Please forgive me. It just happened a few days ago, and I didn't have the time. Nothing is going on between us anyway." I lied, and it felt awful.
She bit the inside of her cheek and sniffled. "It's okay. I understand." She assured as she pulled me into a fierce hug.
"Thanks Vic. You know I always tell you the important things." I told her hugging her back.
She pulled away and kissed my cheek. "I know." She agreed and opened the door.
"Have fun tonight." I said as I watched her walk inside.
"Thanks Han." She said as she shut the door.
I sighed and made my way back home.
The cool autumn breeze sent a shiver through my spine as the sound of crickets filled the air. I really truly didn't want to tell her, but I knew she was going to find out eventually. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. I surely hope a rumor that I'm dating a farm hand doesn't get around. I don't care what people think, but my parents certainly will.
