" Monsters come in many forms. A pretty girl who loves the color red, for example -- the color her victims bleed when they are begging to be spared. "

It had been a few days since the confrontation with Tedros and Marya was in pain. Yes, it was majorly emotional, but the burn on her arm from the spell was possibly getting worse with an infection. It had been incredibly difficult to stay focused in class when all she could think about was for the pain to go away.

Two more lessons had taken place with Sader and the Montague was sure she was hiding her winces pretty well, but she couldn't tell when all she received were blank looks and instructions to follow.

She was currently attempting to transfigure a teacup into a mouse, but her lifted arm was causing Marya to sweat, her teeth gritting to prevent any cry to leave her throat in front of Sader who watched her like a hawk.

" Is there an issue, my dear?" The Dean asked sweetly, but the girl shook her head as she continued to attempt the spell. " Are you certain? You seem pale. Sickly even."

" I'm well, I assure you." Marya said, but released a cry when Sader appeared beside her and squeezed her arm.

" Hm, how curious. I never figured you for a liar, Ms. Montague." She snipped, guiding the girl to the couch in the corner. " I also never took you for a rule-breaker."

The brunette froze, chills littering her skin as Sader's green eyes darkened and her expression melded into one of fury.

" Sneaking out of the castle as if I don't know everything that happens on my grounds." She hissed, lifting herself from the couch to gaze out the large window. " You seem as though you want me to distrust you."

" Please, forgive me." Marya whispered, her eyes trained on her blue sippers as she fiddled with the butterfly bracelet on her wrist. " I learned my lesson."

Evelyn made her way back to the couch and gently hugged the girl, allowing her to tear-up as she ran a soothing hand down her back, " He revealed his true colours, didn't he?"

" He's so obsessed with killing Sophie that he betrayed our love, or whatever it is we have. He didn't trust me." Marya sniffled, wiping her nose with the handkerchief the Dean gave her.

" Just like I can't trust you." Sader uttered lowly, her red nails digging into the girl's back and causing her to hiss. " You'll have to prove yourself to me, my child."

" Anything." She croaked, relieved when the gripped lax and the nails weren't puncturing her skin anymore.

Evelyn toothily smiled, running a hand through the girl's hair in a manner a mother would for her child.

" It's quite simple. I'll heal your injury if you don't break any more rules and do your best in lessons."

" That's all?" The Montague queried unsurely, but the woman nodded. " I promise I'll do my best."

" Good." She snipped, moving to kneel in front of the girl as she lifted the shirt sleeve to inspect the burn. " Oo, what a nasty thing you have, dearie."

Sader went to place a hand on the injury, magic thrumming through her veins, yet she stopped and allowed her other hand to curl around the burn.

" Swear it, Marya. You will never disobey me again." Her eyes darkened to emerald as she applied pressure to the wound, tears flooding the poor girl's eyes as she uttered defeatedly, " I promise to never disobey you again."

" Splendid," Evelyn immediately released the pressure and allowed her hand to glide over the burn, healing the blistered skin. " There, there. All fixed."

Marya peered over at her right arm to see nothing. It was back to normal, as if she had never been in that tower in the first place.

" Thank you." The brunette said, only receiving the order to head down to the dining hall.

She went to open the door, but was quickly halted as Evelyn told her, " Wait, I forgot to give you something."

Marya examined the little box the Dean held in her hands before it was opened to reveal a class ring. It was a silver band with the crest for the School for Girls.

" I want you to have it. Think of it as a little token for my future class captain."

The Montague slid it on the middle finger of her left hand, observing the way the blue butterfly crest gleamed as though it were a sapphire.

" Never take it off. Understood?"

" Understood."

Marya left the study, unaware of the grinning woman she left behind.

Author's Note

This chapter was slightly shorter, but it reveals a lot about the dynamic between Sader and Marya.

Hope you guys are enjoying! Don't be shy to comment since it helps motivate me to write when reading all of them. It's always nice to know someone enjoys reading what you're writing.
