Teras skips through camp, climbing the trees as he made his way around. He's been in camp for around 2 weeks now. And surprisingly, he's been enjoying his time here.
"Teras!" A voice calls out, stopping Teras in his tracks, turning from where he was stationed halfway up a tree.
It was Mania, and Danny. A smile breaks out on Teras' face before he recognizes the look of worry on Mania's face. He tilts his head.
"Hi Ms. Sun Lady! Are you okay?" Teras calls out, before jumping off the tree. He feels a slight bit of pain and winces as he feels the bones in his ankles heal. Despite the amount of pain he has faced, he would never get used to the feeling of broken bones.
Mania rushes over to him after he jumps from the tree and looks him over. "Are you alright? You shouldn't be climbing these trees, it's dangerous!" Mania titters, her face crinkled with worry.
Teras tilts his head, a smile on his face. "It's fine! I get better!" Usually his words soothe the other campers, if confuse them in the process but still soothes their worries. But Mania, she still has a look of worry on her face.
"Just because you get better doesn't mean it doesn't hurt." She scolds, laying a land on Teras' shoulder as she crouches down. "Being in pain, even if it isn't long, doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt. You should take more care of yourself."
Teras blinks. "I-... But. I get better!" Mania shakes her head at his words, standing tall as she places her hands on her shoulders.
"Nope. That won't slide with me, you're grounded." Mania states, her tone leaving no room for argument as Teras looks on in confusion.
"Whats, grounded...? I'm on the ground already, aren't i?" Danny giggles at Teras' words and hugs the boy's leg, giving him peanut butter cookies as he did the time before.
Mania sighs, "I should've expected that." She mutters under her breath before looking at Teras. "Being grounded means you aren't allowed to... hm.. I guess have cookies...? I really don't know what a punishment for you would be." Mania mumbles the last part under her breath as she looks to the side.
Grounded... Teras lights up. "Oh! Is it like when Mr. Cyclops made me stay in the cave while they went adventuring?" Mania tilts her head,
"Uh. I mean, if that's what you figure is a punishment then yes." Mania states.
"Whats that?"
Mania purses her lips. "A punishment is like... when you do a bad thing and it's to teach you not. To do said bad things again."
Teras looks to the ground as he processes this, catching sight of Danny still hugging his leg. "Huh... so, me jumping out of trees is bad...?" Teras questions, jumping out of trees was normal to him.
"No. You having no sense for putting your body in pain is bad. You have to take care of your body. Without doing so, well... you get hurt." Mania has her look of worry, mixed with something Teras can't place.
"But. I get better! It's doesn't matter cause I get better!" Teras argues, he had lived his whole life like this, what did it matter if he got hurt if he could get better.
Mania seemed to read the thoughts from just looking at his eyes and sighed, relaxing her body as she kneeled in the dirt. "Listen, Teras. Just because you heal doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Plus, what if one day, you don't heal? Magic is finky and I would rather you learn how to save yourself from being hurt than for one day, you don't heal and end up brutally hurt."
Teras blinked rapidly, no one, not even monsters, had ever cared that much about him. He felt wetness slide down his cheeks as he struggled to smell.
Mania looked worried through the blurriness of his eyes and Teras yelped. "Whats, what's happening? Why are my cheeks wet?" Danny tugged on Teras' toga and brought the other boy's face down to his so Danny could wipe at his eyes, clearing his vision.
Mania blinked. "Teras. Have you never cried before?" Teras tilted his head.
"Whats... what's crying?" Mania seemed sad, her scent reading of what Ms. Snake would be after she spoke of her past.
"Crying is what happens when you get sad, or happy or sometimes overwhelmed. It's your body's way of, kind of rinsing your emotions clean in a way." Mania explains as she plants her hand on Teras' head. "It's okay to cry."
Teras sniffles. "But... why am I crying! I'm not sad, or happy, or overwhelmed. I don't even know what overwhelmed is." Teras cries out, more tears falling from his eyes.
Danny hugs his leg tighter and pats it in form of a soothe. Mania gives a weak smile. "Can I give you a hug Teras?" The boy nods and Mania hugs him lightly, careful to not smother Danny.
"It's okay Teras. Sometimes even the smallest of things can make people cry. Listen. I want you to come to my cabin for a cup of warm milk and a nap alright?" Mania pulls back from Teras and wipes his tears carefully, tugging Danny off of Teras' leg and shuffles him into her arm.
She then tugs Teras into her other arm, surprising the boy out of his sniffling for a moment. "You're strong Ms. Sun Lady." He comments, less enthusiastic than usual.
Mania gives a small smile. "I am a demigod. Now come on. Danny needs a nap as well."
Later, as Teras gets soothed to sleep by the calming scent of chamomile tea and soft singing from Mania, he would wonder back on his life and realize that this was the first time he had ever cried.
