The cold air of Norway bit at Lia's skin as she made her way toward the boarding gate, her hands instinctively pulling her coat tighter around her.

Yet despite the chill that swept through her, a smile was fixed on her face. It had been two whirlwind days since graduation, and now, she was finally heading home—to Forks.

The boarding process was smooth, and as Lia found her seat, she slid her carry-on bag under the seat in front of her before settling in.

The plane was just beginning to fill, and as the other passengers shuffled in, she pulled out her phone for one last message to her father.

Her fingers moved quickly over the screen as she typed:

Lia: About to take off! I can't wait to see you, Dad. I'll text you when I land! Love you!

She hit send and waited for a reply, but nothing came immediately. With a small shrug, she turned off her phone just as the pilot's voice echoed through the speakers, reminding everyone to buckle their seat belts and switch their phones to airplane mode.

Lia adjusted her seatbelt, leaning back as she looked out the window. As the plane began to taxi toward the runway, her thoughts drifted to the warm welcome she hoped to receive in Forks.

In Forks, Washington, Charlie Swan was bustling around Lia's room, making sure everything was perfect for his daughter's return. He wiped down the already spotless dresser, straightened the bedspread for the fifth time, and fluffed the pillows.

It had been years since Lia last stayed in this room, and though he knew that she was no longer the little girl who had filled the space with laughter and stuffed animals, he hoped she'd appreciate that he had left most of her things untouched.
