As they left the forest and stepped onto the outskirts of Forks, the change in atmosphere was immediate. The towering trees behind them gave way to the familiar sight of homes, dimly lit streets, and the hum of small-town life.
The sky had already darkened, leaving the cool air of evening to settle around them, with only streetlights guiding their path.
Edward walked slightly behind Vidalia, his sharp eyes catching every subtle movement. Ever since she had revealed her true nature, everything she did seemed to carry a new layer of magic.
His gaze dropped to the ground where they walked, noticing how each patch of grass or nearby shrub seemed to perk up as she passed, becoming more vibrant and full of life.
It wasn’t just the plants either—stray cats, birds in the distance, even the occasionally irritated dog that barked from across the street would calm down instantly, almost as if they were paying their respects to her presence.
Edward couldn’t help but smile at the scene. Now that he knew the truth about her, it made perfect sense. Vidalia was unknowingly touching everything around her with her essence, and he found it enchanting.
“You know,” Edward broke the comfortable silence between them, his voice carrying a hint of playful curiosity, “the plants and animals around here seem to be in love with you.” He paused, watching as another small shrub visibly brightened at her side.
“It’s like they’re welcoming a goddess, or maybe you’ve just got a way of calming even the grumpiest creatures.”
Vidalia blinked, a soft blush rising to her cheeks. “Am I really doing that?” she asked, genuinely surprised as she glanced down at the plants Edward mentioned. She hadn’t realized her influence was so visible.
“You’ve been doing it the entire time,” Edward said, his tone light. “Even back there with that stray cat. It’s almost as if they’re all greeting you —like they know you.”
Vidalia’s flustered expression deepened, but she narrowed her eyes playfully at Edward. “Are you sure they’re not just reacting to you? You do have a certain… charming effect on people.”
Edward laughed, the sound low and warm. “Nice try, Blossom,” he teased, using the nickname he reserved for her, "but this isn’t my doing. And I don’t think I’ve ever had this effect on shrubbery.”
