Vidalia shot up in bed, her heart pounding as the realization hit her. 'The cake!' She had completely forgotten to design it. In her rush to get everything done last night, exhaustion had won out, and now it was the morning of the deadline.
Throwing on whatever clothes were nearby, Vidalia bolted downstairs, her mind racing through designs and how little time she had left. But as she neared the kitchen, her steps slowed. The faint sound of movement reached her ears, and when she pushed the door open, she froze.
There, standing by the kitchen counter, was Edward. He was focused, his fingers delicately placing what looked like finishing touches on the cake. And it wasn't just any cake —it was beautiful. The theme, Nature, was perfectly embodied in every detail. Edward had captured it perfectly.
Flowers and vines spiraled up the sides of the cake, intricately detailed in shades of green, pink, and yellow. The whole thing looked as though it had been plucked straight from a lush, enchanted forest.
Vidalia's breath caught in her throat. 'How did he—?'
"Edward," she called softly, stepping into the kitchen.
He looked up, his golden eyes meeting hers with a small smile. "Good morning. You're just in time. I was finishing up."
Vidalia's panic melted into awe as she approached the cake, her fingers lightly touching the cool countertop beside it. "It's beautiful," she whispered, her eyes tracing the details.
Then she glanced up at him, her cheeks flushing with guilt. "I—I'm so sorry, Edward. I didn't mean to make you do all the work. I fell asleep and—"
Edward shook his head quickly, cutting her off. "No, Lia. You did most of the work. I just added a few things here and there. Really, it's nothing."
Vidalia opened her mouth to protest, but the intricate design spoke for itself. There was no way this was nothing. She knew her way around baking, but what Edward had done with the design was beyond anything she could have imagined. Her eyes flickered over the cake again, trying to understand how he'd come up with something so detailed, so fitting for the theme.
