when did the bracelet he bought me turn into a shackle?

the letter "M" dangling from my wrist

no longer a reminder of our cherished memories 

but a brand, like cattle, preventing any attempt to stray

no longer does this tiny chain feel weightless

but heavier in mind and heart knowing it's true intention

do i attempt to rid myself of this entrapment?
