With God as a witness
Oh god you are my weakness
I shirk the one to pray to the other
Benedictions fluttering from lips
Floating like spiced incense
Eagerly I became your suppliant
Bent knees on unforgiving stone
Chin upturned singing you psalms
Songs ignored by temperamental godlet
With clasped hands and an easy smile
I await my taste of flesh
The touch of wine on my tongue
I take my communion gladly
Teeth stained burgundy with it
Imbibement bubbling over open mouth
A personal eucharist between us in dark corners
