Maya Aseal
"I'm sorry, what?!" I exclaimed.
"You heard me!" Solana defends.
It was the next day, and Solana was rambling about the date she was out with last night. Turns out the guy she went out and went to bed with was not Mr. so good–in her words. I bursted out laughing.
"That's not funny!" She slaps me with a small smile forming on her face.
"I'm sorry!" I giggle, putting down my coffee cup. "That is what you get for swiping right on him."
She rolls her eyes. "Yeah, whatever. Go ahead, laugh it up."
While we laughed, Race came in and told me The Boss was looking for me. I waved to Solana—see you later and headed to The Boss' office. I felt my nerves spike with each step I took to his office.
There are usually two reasons why you are called to The Boss office. Either you're getting fired or for an assessment. I fear for me it's the first one.
Taking a deep breath, I knock on the door and waltz in."You called?"
The Boss looks up from his papers and smiles while gesturing to me to sit down.
"Ah, Maya, good to see you," He spoke sternly but friendly as I took a seat fixing my glass. "I wanted to talk about something important with you."
"Please don't fire me!" I gulp.
"What? Fire you?" He chuckles. "I'm not firing you, you're like one of the best nurses here. No, I called you to talk about Killian. You're patient." I release a breath.
"W-What do you want to talk about?" I fiddle nervously.
"Well, I've been watching and so have others that Killian has been more .... responsive with you than other nurses he has had in the past." He leans back in his chair, arms both crossing each other.
"W-What do you mean?"
"What I mean is, Maya, before you came he was always aggressive, harmful, unresponsive, cruel, and a monster towards his old nurses but with you–with you, he became more soft, opening, and calming." I shake my head.
"H-He doesn't listen to me.." I softly spoke.
"Now, Maya, why lie if the evidence is pretty clear." He leans up.
"I'm not though," I bit my lip anxiously.
The Boss shakes his head and gets up, rounding his desk towards me. "Then how come he hasn't hurt you yet? How come he lets you do things he wouldn't let the other nurses do?" He raises an eyebrow, leaning back on his desk, both arms crossed again.
"I don't know.." I whispered, my gaze turning to the floor.
"Well, I do. Everyone thinks–even me–thinks that you've put an influence on Killian." He spoke with his words sinking into my brain.
"Where are you going with this, Boss?" I look up at him.
"What I'm saying, Maya, is we want you to use whatever you have on him to get information out of him." The Boss paused, getting off his desk to turn around and grabbing a file. "See this—this is Killian's file and has nothing in it. We only know his name, age, and birthdate like when you first interviewed him. Maya, you're a beautiful girl who can do anything."
I grabbed the file from his hand and opened it. He wasn't wrong. All it did was show a picture of Killian, his name, age, and birthdate. I bit my lip even harder.
"I-I don't know. Can't you get a therapist for this job?" He shakes his head.
"Maya, like I said before. He won't listen or do anything with anyone unless it's you." I gulp, my eyes shifting back to his photo.
I stayed quiet momentarily having an inside battle with myself before answering him. "I-..okay."
"That's the Maya I hired." He smiled. "All you have to do is talk to him. This other file I'm about to give you gives you questions that you have to ask him. Okay?" I nod.
I watched him reach over his desk for the other files he was talking about. I gently take them from his hand.
"And if I do this? It won't be used against him, right?" The Boss nodded.
"I promise."
Understanding that we were both on the same page, I stood up and shook his hand goodbye. Leaving his office, a breath escaped my lips without me knowing.
As I strolled through the corridors towards Killian's room, my heart raced like crazy. Many thoughts ran through my head that made my nerves spike. Once I made it, I nodded to one of the guards to let me in and they did just that. Taking one last breath, I walked in with both files. I jumped when they closed the door behind me.
"Killian.." I cleared my throat.
"Mia Bella!" He smiled.
This was going to be nerve-wracking.
