Maya Aseal

"Anything?"

I look up from my coffee to Solana as she starts to look over everything that has been going on with Killian. To my surprise, I was shocked to see her still working with me after he almost choked the life out of her.

"No, and as for my throat, it's fine. Thanks for asking, you know." She sarcastically states throwing me a small smile.

"Sorry," I look down at my coffee again.

Today me and Solana took a day off to see what's going on. Manythings were starting to be put into place, but every time we have an answer there is always a piece missing.

"You're fine. But I'm starting to think there is nothing wrong with him." Solana mumbles, taking back a sip of her coffee.

"What?! No. There has to be something. Killian can't just be all him and then turn deadly." I protest, leaning back into my chair. "So, think about it. The last time Killian was him was when he kissed me before Race came."

"Do you even know what Race gave him?" I shake my head.

"All he had was a needle." She hums in response.

Both of us fell silent, letting the wind blow before us. The only sound around us was cars honking and driving by, dogs barking, birds chirping, and people talking on phones or people around them.

I started to think of many theories about my Killian and what happened to him. But one that caught my attention was how after Race took him out and hadn't seen him for at least a couple of days. It was weird not just to me, but some others around me that work at the hospital.

"You've got a point, Maya, but where in the world am I going to get such information?" She crossed her arms and legs.

A smile forms on my face.

"I might just have it, but it's where you're risking your job," I mumble, taking another sip of my coffee.

"And that is?" She grits.

"Gointothebossesofficetoseeifthereisanyinfromation.." I rushed out, making Solana choke on her spit.

She laughs it off. "I'm sorry it sounded like you just said to sneak into the Boss's office to see if there is any information about Killian's sudden change in attitude!" I nod.

"Why do I bother to do things for you?!" She groans, palming herself in the face.

"Will you?" I plead.

"Fine! But if I get fired, so do you." She grumbles.

She is not joking.

"Fine." I smile.

Solana rolls her eyes and goes to take a bite of her blueberry muffin.

The day went by fast before I ended up back home. I didn't have much to do, except read and watch movies. Yet, most of the time Killian was all I could think about. The old Killian, not the new one. We're still trying to see what's going on with him.

When I left his room yesterday all I could do was cry. That's not the man I knew before.
As I finished cleaning my stove top my phone rang.

"Hello?" I picked it up.

"Maya?" It was Race.

Rolling my eyes and taking a deep breath in, I respond. "Yes, Race?"

"Hey, I know it's late, but I need you here at the hospital." I raised an eyebrow.

"Why, I took a day off for a reason." I go sit on my couch.

"I know, but it's about Killian." My breath hitches.

"What about him?" Race sighs over the phone.

I felt like my heart was racing as I waited for Race to speak up. I know I'm supposed to stay away from Killian, but my heart won't let me. He won't let me.

I know I'm playing with fire, but once I care about someone – or most importantly – like someone. My heart doesn't want to let go.

"Well, he won't take his medicine and he only wants it from you. So, can you come in?" He pleads.

"Race I–" He cuts me off.

"Great! See you in a minute Maya!" He hangs up.

I look down at my screen, seeing it go black after Race hung up on me, not letting me finish my sentence.

What the heck?
