Maya Aseal

Fluttering my eyes open I see a bright light. Am I dead?

"Oh! Thank goodness you're awake!" Solana panics, rushing over to me.

What happened?

"W-What happened?" I looked around me and saw that there were a couple of paramedics talking to Race while Solana was standing next to me.

I soon realized I was on a stretcher.

"Be careful and it was Killian. I guess when you went to save yourself or something like that – Killian gripped the back of your neck too hard and you passed out." I hum in response. "At least you're okay." She smiles at me.

"I don't feel okay.." I mumbled, feeling something in me die just when the paramedics came up to me.

They told me that I was fine and there was a need to take me to the hospital. They unwrap me from the stretcher and I get down gently with Solana's help. Race was no longer around.

"I should get you home." Solana grunts, wrapping one of my arms around my neck, letting me lean my body weight on her.

"Please.." She nods and we make our way to her car.

We didn't say much to each other when she strapped me in and hopped into the driver's seat. The ride was quiet, too quiet should I say. Solana glanced at me here and there, but I didn't think much. Something in me was too dead to ask her to stop. It felt like all the life in me was sucked out.

"May, you okay?" Solana comes to a red light.

I shrug.

"Maya..this isn't like you." She reached over and held my hand.

I shrug again.

"Maya, answer me." She whispered.

I turned to her. "What do you want me to say? You were right? Oh, I know." I muttered the last part. "By the way, the light is green." She cursed under her breath and took off.

"Maya, I-" I cut her off.

"Save me the pity, So." She stayed quiet after that.

****

"Comfortable?" Solana questions, fluffing up my pillows behind me as I stare off into the distance.

Am I okay?

"Maya?" She waves her hand in my face.

I snap out of it and give her a forceful smile. It's been a while since Solana pulled up to my apartment complex and helped me into my apartment. I don't know why she bothered to stay when I told her I got this. She acts like my mother when I get sick.

"So, go home. I told you like three times. I am fine!" I utter, causing her to flinch a little.

"Okay, no need to snap." She utters.

"Just leave," I go to cuddle myself as thoughts start to take over.

Solana takes a minute to collect herself debating if she should stay or leave her best friend alone in her thoughts. Hope she chooses option 2. Finally, a soft sad sigh leaves her mouth and she's gone. Once the door clicked behind her I burst into tears.

That was not the Killian I knew when I first met him. Yes, he was a little cocky at first but then started to warm up to me. I gained his trust.

Yeah, that was before you broke it. Idiot.

"Shut up," I mutter to myself.

Yet, my conscience wasn't wrong. If I never broke his trust he would have turned into the monster that everyone claimed him to be at first. I cry even harder. I can't believe he choked me to kill me.

I sat crying for hours until I became numb. Something in me snapped causing my whole face to turn blank. I got up to go use the bathroom, but when I side-eye myself in the bathroom, I gasped. Looking at the girl in the mirror, she was gone. My eyes color left. They look black and numb.

I gulp.

What a shame.

There were no more tears to cry. No more laughter in me to even smile. He did it. He killed me.

Staring into my reflection for quite some time, I finally snap out of it and go do my business. When I am done, I go to wash my hands, not bothering to look at me again. The old Maya was gone. Finding myself back on the couch, my phone rings.

"Whoever this is. Maya can't come to the phone now." I mock voicemail boxes as I pick up.

"Maya, I heard what happened. Are you okay?" It was the boss.

"Yes, sir." I lied.

"Are you sure? It sounds like you're dead." Maybe because I am!

"Nope, I am A.O.K," I reassure him, forcing myself a smile over the phone.

"Okay, If you say so." He mumbles.

Silence fell short between us. All that could be heard was the sound of his and I's breathing.

Say you quit, Maya. Say you're done.

Finally, something I can agree with.

"Boss if you don't mind...I want to be done taking care of Killian." I speak up first, breaking the silence.

"You sure, Maya?" I nod.

"It's better for me and him." He hums.

"Okay, Killian will have a new nurse." I hear shuffling in the background.

"Thank you, sir." I hung up.

Throw my phone to the side, I cuddle myself up again and cry some more. What has my life become?
