Jon and Mikha arrived at Shiro, a small ramen shop nestled in the busy streets of Quezon City. They came at the perfect time—just as the shop was opening, with no line in sight. The moment the door slid open; a familiar voice greeted Jon.

"Ho, Jon! Been a while since I last saw you," called out the shop owner, a middle-aged man with a warm smile.

Jon returned the greeting, a light chuckle escaping his lips. "Yuki-san! Craving your ramen today. I brought a friend along—this is Mikha."

Turning to Mikha, Jon gestured toward the man. "Mikha, this is Yuki-san, the owner. I've known him since my college days."

Mikha gave a polite bow, her voice soft. "Oh, hello! It's nice to meet you."

Yuki's eyes twinkled as he studied her. "Your girlfriend is very pretty, Jon."

"She's just a friend, Yuki-san," Jon corrected, though there was a slight pause in his voice.

"If you say so," Yuki teased. "Come in before the crowds arrive. I'll make sure to get you seated at the best spot."

Jon motioned for Mikha to enter first. As they stepped inside, Mikha quietly commented, "I didn't know you spoke Japanese."

Jon smiled. "Picked it up as an elective in college. Handy skill"

"That's impressive," Mikha replied, genuinely astonished.

The inside of Shiro was a world of its own. The warm, inviting scent of simmering broth and freshly grilled chashu immediately filled the air. Dark wooden panels adorned the walls, while paper lanterns swayed gently overhead, casting a soft, amber glow that enveloped the space in warmth. The minimalist design, coupled with traditional Japanese murals of serene landscapes and cherry blossoms, created an atmosphere of calm amidst the city's rush.

Jon and Mikha settled at the counter, which allowed a clear view of the chef working his magic behind the scenes. The rhythmic sounds of broth bubbling and noodles boiling made the experience even more immersive.
