"So, I got news for you."
"Already?" Jon asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yep," Martin responded. "The post-editing was a breeze since you performed magnificently! And thanks for the backing tracks, it saved a lot of time."
"Yeah, yeah. Praise me more, Martin," Jon replied with a grin.
"Tsk. Don't let it get to your head, or you'll grow a big ego for sure."
"Just kidding around, sheesh," Jon said, waving a hand. "So, what's the news?"
"You're most likely getting hired officially."
"You don't sound quite sure."
"Well... they also liked your singing voice, actually," Martin said. "They asked me if you can do one more set of recordings two days from now."
"Two days, huh," Jon pondered for a bit. "I can probably do ten backing tracks in two days' time."
"That's plentiful already, but they want more variety in terms of your voice."
"Do they wanna test my vocal range?"
"Pretty much," Martin answered. "But also some techniques that you know when it comes to singing."
"Okay..." Jon paused, then asked, "Do I have control over the genre?"
"Hmmm... They didn't specifically say anything about the type of songs or the genre," Martin said. "Just that you should sing again in the next recording session with some variety."
"Well, okay," Jon uttered. "But let me know if you clarify it with them."
"Will do."
"Wouldn't want to end up recording random stuff just for them to crap on my performance."
Martin chuckled. "Oh please, you'll do great."
"Let's hope so," Jon responded.
After driving for a few more minutes, they finally arrived at Jon's house. The rain had stopped, allowing Jon to bid farewell to Martin and bring his guitar inside without any fuss.
First, I have to make dinner. Take a bath. Then, start on the recording right away, Jon thought to himself.
Recording backing tracks is no easy task. Not to mention the amount of tracks Jon has to do in a span of two days is already challenging. But he couldn't complain. The position he was hired for was practically handed to him on a silver platter. So, the pressure was on when it came to the product he had to deliver.
As Jon entered his house, a barking noise echoed throughout the room. A golden retriever with a black collar lunged at him, wagging its tail, and began licking Jon's face. The dog seemed to have missed him, showing affection by tackling Jon and bombarding his face with licks.
"I'm sorry I'm late, Luke," Jon apologized to the dog as it kept licking his face. "Let's get you dinner first. You must be starving."
Luke barked in response, clearly in agreement.
As Jon went about his evening routine, he reflected on the day's events. Aside from work, he had met someone from Bini. He never really understood the appeal of fame, but he did appreciate music, and Bini's music wasn't to be underestimated.
They're definitely taking the world by storm, Jon thought to himself. Pop has been around ever since the 80s, with its meteoric rise ever since Michael Jackson popularized and streamlined the genre. Over the years, Pop as a music genre evolved from various artists applying different techniques. From hip-hop to pop-punk, and even oriental styles like J-pop and K-pop. But now, Bini has done a similar but different take of blending Filipino artistry with pop.
