" No!"

" No...No... and NO!" Nan recited like a rhyme, shutting down Mac's suggestion.

" but Nannnnnn..." Mac followed, undeterred, from track to his office, removing his gear as he went, unzipping his overalls.

" Lalalalala" Nan continued to be his irritating self, settling comfortably into his chair, picking up a paid invoice just to appear busy. He was hoping for Mac to let this go but after two weeks, the brat was insistent!

" but Nan, we need them at the wedding" Mac argues, perched by the desk. He has been parroting this statement until his saliva ran dry but the bastard refused to budge. He begged, threatened, to a point withholding sex even, not like it had worked, but the extent Mac had to go to, was ridiculous by now.

" Correction"

"The only ones required at a wedding is the bride and groom, which is, in this scene, you and me. I am not going to THAT family, asking them to come"

" Nope. Not now, not ever" Nan clarified. He was not stepping into the home his mom died in, not speaking to his uncles and aunts or the status conscious grandparents who allowed it all to happen. His body shivered in disgust at the mere thought of connecting with E-U-A.

" but there are ceremonies, dowries to be discussed among elders. Dad has asked me twice already when we are meeting your family. I haven't been able to give an answer each time. Won't you respect Dad's wishes? Do you not consider him a fatherly figure at least? Have you been pretending all this while?".

Now Mac got upset.

Nan not wanting his maternal family was one thing but insulting his Dad was another act entirely.

How dare he!

The removed gloves hit the seated man exactly on the chest, the hit forceful to make him wince, his beloved stomping purposely all the way to the exit.

Dramatic?

Well hell yeah!

If Nan could be stubborn , then so could he. Marriages called for mutual concessions and compromises. Well, if he wasn't receiving them, then Mac chose to be the asshole to not give them either. He pulled the door open by a foot length before a palm slammed it loudly, close to his bloody face.

" Mac" Nan warned, stepping close, a centimeter from plastering against his fiancée back, stiff and angry.

No, this was not what he intended to happen. The fight was between Nan and his family,  never Mac and him. Mac should never have to suffer for his failure of a happy family. Despite losing his mom at a young age, Mac's Dad had loved him, up until giving him his all until the last breath. Nan who had been deprived of a family, despite being among the living, who had chosen to chase him off  at one funeral, only to invite him back at another when he was truly orphaned. Such push and pull he frowned upon, but it appears this was important to Mac.

" Baby..."

Usually Mac gave up at this point, having tortured his lover enough, but this time, his heart wouldn't oblige, turning a deaf ear to pleas.

" I can't go beg them Mac..." Nan attempted at reason, low and sad, hands settling at his lover's waist dips.

Mac's head fell with a soft thud against the metal door.

 Agreed.

Nan shouldn't have to beg anyone as long as Mac lived, but for him to initiate a conversation with P'Eua, he did need Nan's permission. They were partners now; going behind Nan's back was a huge 'No' in Mac's books. Turning back into Nan's arms, Mac allowed himself to rest his chin gently on the solid shoulder, sharing his hearts burden.
