26 - Jennie meets Suzy

Jennie returned to her apartment and got ready for the evening, knowing she had a family dinner with Mr. Bae and his relatives. She hadn’t expected much from the dinner, but it felt good to reconnect with people while she tried to put her life back together.

As she arrived at Mr. Bae’s large estate, the guards opened the gate, allowing her to drive inside. She parked her car and stepped out, glancing around the grand property. Just as Jennie was locking her car, another car pulled up behind hers, honking lightly. She turned to see Irene getting out, and her curiosity piqued when she noticed another girl sitting in the passenger seat.

Irene practically ran over to Jennie, pulling her into a hug. "Jen! It’s so good to see you! How are you?"

Jennie smiled, hugging her back warmly. "Hey, Rene. I’m doing alright, hanging in there. What about you?"

Before Irene could answer, the girl from the car stepped out, looking a little weary but elegant as she approached them. Jennie’s gaze was immediately drawn to her.

Irene noticed Jennie’s eyes on the girl and grinned. "Oh, right! Jennie, this is my little sister, Bae Suzy. But we all call her Suji."

Jennie’s eyes met Suzy’s, and in that split second, it was like the world around them faded away. Suzy seemed momentarily mesmerized by Jennie’s piercing blue eyes, while Jennie, for the first time since Lisa, felt her heart skip a beat.

Neither of them said a word as they stared at each other, almost as if something unspoken passed between them. Jennie could feel her pulse quicken, and for a moment, she wasn’t sure if it was nervousness or something else.

Irene, noticing the sudden silence, couldn’t resist breaking the tension with a teasing fake cough. "Ahem!" She raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Guys, you can stare at each other all you want after dinner. Right now, we’ve got to get inside."

Suzy blushed furiously and nudged Irene, muttering, "Unnie, stop it."

Still embarrassed but trying to regain her composure, Suzy extended her hand toward Jennie. "Hi, I’m Suzy. It’s really nice to meet you."

Jennie, equally flustered but trying to play it cool, smiled as she shook Suzy’s hand. "Nice to meet you too, Suji. I’m Jennie Kim."

There was something electrifying in that brief handshake. Jennie hadn’t felt a connection like this with anyone since Lisa, and it both excited and confused her. She wasn’t ready to feel this way again—or was she?

Irene, sensing the subtle sparks, grinned mischievously. "Well, now that the introductions are out of the way, let’s get inside before we freeze out here. Suji, stop making googly eyes at Jennie."

Suzy groaned, embarrassed. "Unnie! Stop being so dramatic!"

Jennie chuckled at their sibling banter but couldn’t shake the strange warmth she felt. As they walked toward the house, Jennie’s thoughts drifted back to Lisa for a moment. She had never imagined feeling anything for someone else, yet here she was, feeling something undeniable for Irene’s sister.

And for the first time in what felt like forever, Jennie wondered if she might actually want to explore that feeling.

The three of them stepped inside the grand Bae family home. Jennie could feel the warmth of the place, the lively chatter in the background, and the welcoming atmosphere. As they walked in, Jennie noticed that Suji was glancing at her now and then, her eyes quickly shifting away whenever Jennie caught her looking.
