Lisa was overwhelmed with a tidal wave of emotion, tears of joy mingling with the relief of finally having answers. The news of her triplets had been a shock, but the warmth and reassurance from Dr. Bae offered a glimmer of comfort. As Lisa tried to steady herself, she turned to Dr. Bae and asked, “Dr. Bae, are my babies healthy?”

Dr. Bae offered a gentle smile, her eyes conveying both professionalism and empathy. “Yes, the babies are in excellent health, but…”

Lisa’s heart sank as her anxiety flared up again. “But what, doctor?”

Dr. Bae’s tone remained calm and soothing. “Miss Manoban, there’s no need for panic. Everything looks fine, but you are a bit weak. We’ll need to run some additional tests to ensure everything is in order. After that, I’ll prescribe some vitamins to help you regain your strength. Stress is not good for you or the babies, so try to relax and take it easy.”

Lisa nodded, trying to absorb the reassurance. Yet, a lingering concern gnawed at her. Dr. Bae then inquired, “But you don’t have anyone with you? No husband or boyfriend?”

Lisa’s gaze dropped to her hands. “No, it’s just me,” she said softly, feeling the weight of her solitude press down on her.

Dr. Bae noticed the sadness in Lisa’s eyes but chose to let it be, instead offering a brief, understanding nod. “Okay.”

As Dr. Bae prepared to leave, Lisa looked down at her growing belly and spoke softly in Korean, “I’m sorry, babies. Your dad isn’t here because of me.”

Dr. Bae, fluent in Korean, understood but shifted the topic. “Are you originally from Korea?”

Lisa shook her head, a small, sad smile forming on her lips. “No, I’m from Thailand, but I’ve lived in Korea for several years.”

At that moment, the nurse, Ella Gross, spoke up. “Hmm, I’m Korean. My name is Ella Gross.”

Dr. Bae glanced at Ella with a mix of annoyance and authority. “Ella, you’re going to be a doctor soon. Remember to maintain professionalism and learn from this experience.”

Dr. Bae Bae, after reviewing the ultrasound images, turned back to Lisa. “I’m sorry for any confusion, Lisa. Ella is an intern, still learning the ropes. She might speak more than necessary.”

Lisa offered a small, appreciative smile despite the lingering emotional storm. “It’s okay. She’s quite endearing. I’m Lalisa Manoban, but just call me Lisa.”

Dr. Bae extended her hand for a handshake, and Lisa took it gratefully. “Hi, I’m Bae Suzy from Korea.”

Ella rolled her eyes subtly and muttered, “Dr. Bae Suzy, is this really professional?”

Dr. Bae Suzy simply rolled her eyes in return. “Whatever. Just make sure Lisa’s tests are handled with care.”

Dr. Bae Suzy handed Ella a list of the required tests, written in her precise but occasionally hard-to-read handwriting. Ella glanced at the list and murmured, “The handwriting is so difficult. Sometimes I can’t even decipher it.”

Dr. Bae Suzy turned to Ella with a sharp look. “Ella Gross, I heard that.”

Ella’s eyes met Dr. Bae Suzy’s for a brief moment before she nodded and accepted the list. “Understood, Dr. Bae.”
