Midoriya sat at the dining table, his eyes scanning the room filled with All Might-themed birthday decorations. His mom had gone all out — All Might streamers hung from the ceiling, balloons in red, blue, and gold floated in the corners of the room, and a large cardboard cutout of All Might himself stood proudly by the door, giving his signature thumbs-up. The table was adorned with All Might plates, napkins, and cups, and a small action figure of the hero held a banner that read "Happy Birthday, Izuku!" His birthday cake, of course, was shaped like All Might, complete with a bright yellow smile and a dramatic pose.
But none of it mattered to Midoriya. His gaze lingered on the cake, his heart heavy and disinterested. The vibrant decorations, which normally would have filled him with excitement, only served as a reminder of his failure. How could he celebrate with All Might as the theme when he couldn't even save the one person who meant the most to him? Heroes were supposed to protect the ones they love — that was the foundation of everything he believed in. Yet, he couldn't protect you, his only friend, his girlfriend. He felt like a fraud, a terrible boyfriend, unworthy of the hero name. He missed you more than words could express.
Inko watched her son closely, her heart aching for him. She had spent hours decorating the house to cheer him up, hoping to see the familiar spark of joy in his eyes. But instead, he just looked defeated. With a soft smile, she moved behind him and began to switch off the lights, the warm glow of the candles becoming the room's only source of light. She carefully lit the candles on the cake, her hand running gently through his green curls.
"Make a wish, Izuku," she said softly, her voice soothing as she stood beside him.
Midoriya looked at the flickering candles, their small flames dancing in the dim light. He nodded reluctantly, his heart torn. He only had one true wish — to meet All Might. No, wait... there were two. To meet All Might and to see you again. He couldn't bear another day without you. With a deep breath, he leaned forward and blew out the candles, his eyes closing as he made his wish, his mind filled with thoughts of you.
Inko watched him closely, her smile softening as she saw the hopeful look on his face. As he kept his eyes closed, she smirked knowingly. Just then, the doorbell rang, cutting through the quiet room.
Midoriya's eyes snapped open, his heart racing. Could it be...? His mind whirled, filled with hope and disbelief. He stared at the door, not blinking, his pulse quickening as he thought to himself, Did my birthday wish come true? He couldn't afford to miss this moment — not for a second.
As Inko slowly walked toward the door, Izuku sat frozen at the table, his mind racing. Who could that be? he wondered, confusion clouding his thoughts. No one ever came to his birthday parties before. It was always just him and his mom—quiet, intimate, and devoid of guests. Was it one of the neighbors? He frowned, doubting that anyone from around the neighborhood would drop by uninvited.
