Y/n sat huddled in the corner of a dark, damp room, her knees pulled tightly to her chest as she clutched her hands together, trying to steady her trembling fingers. The room was cold—bitterly so. The chill seeped through the cracked walls, biting at her skin, leaving her shivering uncontrollably. The only light came from the faint moonlight filtering through a small, grimy hole in the wall, casting long, eerie shadows across the floor. The place was suffocating, with musty air clinging to the dampness that stained the peeling wallpaper. It was a room that reeked of abandonment.
Her stomach growled, loud in the stillness, a painful reminder of how long it had been since she'd eaten. She hugged herself tighter, desperate to feel any kind of warmth or comfort. Her small frame shivered again, and with a quiet sigh, she slowly stood up. Her legs felt weak beneath her as she moved, wobbling slightly as she tripped over the uneven floorboards. Wincing, she waddled towards the door, her tiny fingers fumbling to slide it open.
Y/n peeked outside, her heart pounding in her chest. The hallway was barely illuminated, only lit by the flickering colors from the TV in the next room. The light was off, but the TV cast enough of a glow to reveal a figure slouched on a worn-out couch. Empty bottles of alcohol and crushed beer cans were strewn across the small table beside the figure, casting shadows that danced across the dirty floor. Y/n held her breath, her heart racing in her chest as she watched the figure, hoping—praying—they wouldn't notice her.
Just stay asleep... please...
She began creeping down the hallway, each step slow and deliberate. Her feet made barely a sound, but every creak of the old floorboards felt deafening to her. She kept glancing back, her eyes wide with fear, constantly checking to see if the person on the couch had stirred. Her pulse quickened, her body tense with anxiety. She was terrified of being caught. She couldn't be caught.
Finally, she made it to the small, worn-down kitchen. It was just as bleak as the rest of the house—cupboards hanging on their hinges, counters stained with grime, and a persistent smell of mildew that clung to everything. She quietly opened the nearest cupboard, her heart sinking as she saw how bare it was. There was almost nothing left—except for a single, crumpled package of crackers shoved into the back corner. Her eyes lit up at the sight of them, her stomach growling in anticipation.
Food. Finally.
She reached out, her fingers trembling as they brushed against the package, but just as she was about to grab it, a cold, calloused hand landed heavily on her shoulder.
"So, you think you can just steal from me, you little brat?" a voice snarled from behind her.
Y/n froze, her heart dropping into her stomach. Fear gripped her, her throat tightening as she was yanked backward by her wrist. The crackers fell from her hand, tumbling to the floor. She looked up, her wide, tear-filled eyes meeting the angry gaze of the person towering over her. Her body trembled violently as she stammered, "I-I'm sorry! I was just hungry! I won't do it again, I promise!"
