The sight of the mansion did nothing to ease the tension coiled in my gut. As we disembarked from the Blackbird, the Professor motioned for us to follow him.
We filed into the war room, the air thick with unease. I could see it in everyone's eyes—Jean, Scott, Storm, even Simon. We were all on edge, waiting for the Professor to speak. I'd never felt this stressed in my life.
"Listen closely," the Professor began, his voice steady but filled with a weight that made my heart sink. "Lia has taken on the Darkhold. This artifact corrupts anything and anyone it touches. Right now, she's going to be dangerous, more dangerous than we've ever seen her."
Jean's eyes widened, and she couldn't hold back. "What will happen to her now that she's read it?"
The Professor sighed, a deep, sorrowful sound that seemed to echo through the room. "Any negative part of her she has buried will come to the surface. Her defining traits will strip away, leaving her with three possible motivations: grief, power, or revenge."
I clenched my fists, trying to keep my emotions in check. The thought of Lia turning into something unrecognizable, something dangerous, twisted my insides.
"If you don't already know," the Professor continued, "Lalia isn't a mutant. Her powers are unique, and many would seek to exploit them. That's why I brought her here, to protect her and to keep her safe."
Scott spoke up, his voice tinged with frustration. "So what now? What do we do?"
The Professor's gaze swept over us, his eyes filled with a mix of resolve and sadness. "Lia could very well be unstable and dangerous. Her powers exceed mine, and we must be prepared for the worst. You all have a choice to make: whether you're willing to put your lives on the line to save her. This mission will be perilous, and I cannot guarantee your safety."
I couldn't even consider the idea of not bringing Lia home. It wasn't an option. Hell, it was unthinkable. She's part of us, apart of me.
"We're bringing her back no matter what circumstances," I snarled, my voice rough and edged with steel. "I'll die before giving up on her."
The room went dead quiet, the weight of my words sinking in. I'd do whatever it took to save Lia, even if it meant laying down my own life.
— A Hour Later.
The Professor came back from using Cerebro, and the look on his face was enough to chill anyone to the bone. We all turned to him, waiting for the plan, the way to get Lia back. But the expression he wore told me it was going to be anything but easy.
"So," he began, his voice heavy with the weight of what he'd seen. "Cerebro could only give me glimpses of where she is. The Darkhold is blocking my power, preventing me from reaching her fully. But from what I saw, she's become incredibly dangerous. Lalia knows her brother is dead; she felt it the moment it happened, and for some reason, she has a desire to find his body."
